Silence Condones Evil
Throughout the first chapter of the book of Romans, a multitude of sins are listed. They include: unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice, envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness, gossip, slander, pride and faithlessness (Romans 1:28-31). And there are many, many more.
As human beings living in a fallen world, every single one of us can find ourselves committing a sin somewhere in that list.
The fact is that our fallen flesh causes us to actively sin every day. Until the day we die. But did you know that sin can also be practiced when you don't act?
Consider this Scripture, which Paul writes after he lists all the above-mentioned sins: "They not only (sin) but give approval to those who practice (sin)" (Romans 1:32).
How do we "give approval" to sin? By remaining silent in the face of evil. Our silence heartily approves of evil. In fact, it condones it.
Albert Einstein said it this way, "The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything."
Let us not be those people.
May we always seek truth. Speak the truth. Do so in love.
And always hate evil.
