Analysing Anfield: Diogo Jota is becoming a problem for Jurgen Klopp – and proving Liverpool made the right move with Timo Werner

Man-of-the-moment Diogo Jota is one of the big talking points of the Analysing Anfield podcast after his superb hat-trick for Liverpool in their 5-0 Champions League win at Atalanta. But before Josh Williams and David Hughes get stuck into that, they start by examining the 2-1 victory over West Ham United in the Premier League at Anfield, which proved to be another game when Liverpool conceded first. Why is that? And why could the defending champions count themselves ‘unlucky’? Talk then turns to the outstanding win over Atalanta with particular focus on Jota’s performance as the Reds’ central striker in place of Roberto Firmino. A number of fans wanted to sign Timo Werner in the summer but our hosts wonder whether Liverpool have got the better deal by buying the Wolves man instead. And the final section of the podcast focuses on Sunday’s huge match at Manchester City, whose underlying statistics suggest they aren’t quite the same attacking threat they once were. The Liverpool Echo sends a twice-daily Liverpool FC bulletin out via email with the all latest news, views and analysis from Anfield.
