#481 Gale Pooley - Superabundance, Iceland, and the European Union

Þórarinn talks with Gale Pooley, co-author of the book Superabundance, written together with Marian Tupy.

They discuss the ideas in the book and how they challenge conventional views about scarcity, economic growth, and the future. The conversation also touches on Iceland, the European Union, and the United States’ perspective on Europe, as well as topics like ideology, politics, knowledge, and innovation.

Gale explains how the Simon Abundance Index and Time Prices demonstrate that when people have the freedom to create and use knowledge, abundance and quality of life increase—no matter where they are in the world. In the context of Europe, the discussion covers issues such as energy, fertility, migration, freedom of expression, defense, and the influence of tech giants like Elon Musk on innovation and the future—among many other topics.

• Could Iceland be entering a new era of progress in closer alignment with the United States?
• How can Europe address its fertility challenges?
• How can Gale’s ideas be applied to boost economic growth in Iceland?

These questions are explored here.
