Why Did God Create Us With a Need for Rest? | Daily Devotional & Bible Study
In this Good News Friday episode I share a few updates from my week and ask a simple question: are you as tired as I am? We talk about how God created us with a real need for rest, and I share what the Lord has been teaching me about it in this season. Questions this episode answers Does God want me to rest? Yes. God rested on the seventh day and gave His people the Sabbath as a gift (Genesis 2:2-3, Exodus 20:8-11). Jesus also invites the weary to come to Him for rest (Matthew 11:28). Is being tired a sign of weak faith? No. Being tired is part of being human, and even Jesus slept and stepped away to pray. Rest is a way of trusting God to hold what we cannot carry. How can I practice rest as a Christian? Set aside regular time to stop working and enjoy God. That can include a Sabbath day, quiet time in Scripture, and saying no to some good things so you can say yes to Him. Links If you need real rest with God, our contemplative Bible Study Live retreat in Maui is built around slowing down and listening to Him. Bible Study Live is a small-group Bible study trip with Rachael Groll. Study Scripture where it happened in Rome, or slow down for a contemplative Bible study retreat in Maui.
