Why Did Jesus Quote Psalm 110 to the Pharisees? (Psalm 110) | Daily Devotional & Bible Study
Jesus quotes Psalm 110 as He answers the Pharisees. Today we see how this psalm revealed the Messiah as a victorious king long before He was born. We also learn that even though the war is already won, we still have battles to fight. "The LORD says to my Lord: Sit at My right hand Until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet." (Psalm 110:1) Questions this episode answers Why is Psalm 110 important? Psalm 110 is one of the Old Testament passages quoted most often in the New Testament. It describes the Messiah as a king seated at God's right hand and a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek. Hebrews builds much of its teaching on this psalm. How did Jesus use Psalm 110? In Matthew 22:41-46, Jesus asked the Pharisees how David could call the Messiah Lord if the Messiah was his son. The answer points to Jesus being both David's descendant and divine. No one could answer Him. If Jesus has already won, why do I still face battles? Psalm 110 shows the King seated in victory while His enemies are still being made His footstool. Jesus won the decisive victory at the cross, but we live in the time before His return. So we face real battles, knowing how the story ends.
