Why Should I Pray for People Who Don't Know God? (Psalm 138) | Daily Devotional & Bible Study
Today we begin the last set of eight psalms written by David with Psalm 138. David thanks and praises God, and he longs to see the kings of the earth give thanks to the Lord too. That hope came to life when the gospel spread beyond Israel after Jesus came, and I hope this study stirs you to pray for people who do not know Him yet. "On the day I called, You answered me; You made me bold with strength in my soul." (Psalm 138:3) Questions this episode answers What is Psalm 138 about? Psalm 138 is David's song of wholehearted thanks to God for His lovingkindness and truth. He remembers that God answered when he called and gave him strength. He also looks forward to a day when the kings of the earth will praise the Lord. Who wrote Psalms 138 to 145? Psalms 138 through 145 are a group of eight psalms credited to David. They come near the end of the book of Psalms and include some of his most personal prayers. Psalm 138 opens the group with thanksgiving. How does Psalm 138 point to the gospel? David wants the nations to hear God's words and praise Him. After Jesus' death and resurrection, the good news went out to every nation, just as Jesus commanded. When we pray for people who do not know God, we join that same hope.
