Why Does My Soul Thirst for God? (Psalm 42) | Daily Devotional & Bible Study
Psalm 42 begins the second of the five books of Psalms. Today we look at how we were created to thirst for God and why the things of this world will never fully satisfy us. It's a sweet reminder of God's great love as we start this new section. "As the deer pants for the water brooks, So my soul pants for You, O God." (Psalm 42:1) Questions this episode answers What does 'as the deer pants for the water' mean? The image in Psalm 42:1 is of a thirsty deer searching for water to survive. The writer says his soul needs God in the same way. It describes a deep longing that only God can fill. Why doesn't the world satisfy us? We were made for relationship with God, so anything less leaves us thirsty. Jesus said whoever drinks the water He gives will never thirst (John 4:14). Our longing is meant to lead us back to Him.
