How Do I Handle Betrayal by Someone Close? (Psalm 55) | Daily Devotional & Bible Study
Most of us have felt the sting of betrayal and the pull to get revenge or seek justice. God understands that pain, and we remember that Jesus Himself was betrayed by Judas. Today we look at Psalm 55, where David feels these same emotions and shows us how to cast our burdens on the Lord. "Cast your burden upon the LORD and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken." (Psalm 55:22) Questions this episode answers What is Psalm 55 about? Psalm 55 is David's cry after being betrayed by a close companion. He says it was not an enemy who hurt him but a friend he once walked with in the house of God. The psalm moves from deep anguish to trust in God. What does it mean to cast your burden on the Lord? To cast something is to throw it off and hand it over. Psalm 55:22 invites us to give God the weight we cannot carry, including the hurt of betrayal. He promises to sustain us, and 1 Peter 5:7 echoes this because He cares for us. How should Christians respond to betrayal? We can be honest with God about our pain, as David was. We leave justice in God's hands instead of seeking revenge. Over time, He helps us heal and forgive, just as Jesus forgave those who wronged Him.
