Daily Devo | The Passionate Pursuit of People (John 2:13-25)
The first sign, wine at a wedding, hints at Jesus' pursuit of his bride, the people of God. Immediately afterwards, we see Jesus squaring off against people who would stand in the way of that pursuit. The terrible irony in this case is that it is the religious leadership who stands in the way of this connection! Jesus demonstrates that true religion should never put a barrier between people and God. Jesus passionately pursues the removal of all such obstacles.

For Reflection:
In the Temple itself, Jesus squares off against those who would stand in the way of people coming to God!
- How have religion, religious practices, and religious people been helpful in your faith journey? Have have they been a barrier to connection with God?
- In the final verse, we see that Jesus knows the darkness of human hearts. He may not trust us, but he loves us. Is there any way in which God might be inviting you to love people whom you do not fully trust?
