A Degree, No Job, and a Friend’s Couch: Finding My Way to Tallahassee
In 1992, I returned to Tampa after Army officer training with a biology degree, a car, limited savings, and a friend’s couch to sleep on. What I didn’t have was a job—or even a phone where employers could reach me. In this episode of IN THE KNOW with Tony Reeves, I revisit “the void”: the uncertain stretch between finishing one chapter and finding a foothold in the next. From paper job listings and pay-phone calls to an eight-hour round trip for an interview in Tallahassee, I share how widening my search led to my first career opportunity with the State of Florida. If you’re applying, waiting, and wondering when something will finally happen, I know that feeling. This is the story of how I worked through it.Explore my books and more at https://linktr.ee/mynameisreeves.
