The Ace and Aro Spectrums: Deconstructing Attraction, Debunking Myths, and Validating Connection Beyond Sex and Romance

Explains asexuality and aromanticism as legitimate orientations rather than choices or conditions. It distinguishes asexuality—experiencing little or no sexual attraction—from celibacy, which is a behavior, and notes that research does not classify asexuality as a disorder. Both asexual and aromantic identities are presented as existing on broad spectrums that include microlabels such as demisexual. The text also addresses common misconceptions, including the false belief that these orientations arise from trauma, and underscores the importance of respecting them, avoiding harmful assumptions, and improving their representation in media to foster greater understanding and acceptance.
