Scottie Barnes signs max extension with the Toronto Raptors, and now the hard part begins w/ Vivek Jacob

In Episode 1664, Sean Woodley is joined by Vivek Jacob (Sportsnet, Raptors in 7) to talk about the Toronto Raptors signing franchise cornerstone Scottie Barnes to a rookie max extension for 5-years and up to $270 million. Off the top, Sean and Vivek discuss their initial reactions to the deal and why this is a big win for the Raptors franchise even if it was very much predicted, before discussing whether or not they envision Barnes clearing the qualifications (All-NBA, MVP or DPOY) to earn the full super max with his play next season. Next, they get into the realistic expecations for Barnes has be becomes the highest-paid player in Raptors history, and why the career arc of Jayson Tatum might be an informative one to keep an eye on as Barnes moves into his early prime. Lastly, patience vs. boldness; should the Raptors look to bolster the core around Scottie Barnes with a big move this summer while they have cap flexibility, or should they wait it out a bit and see what next season, the 2025 Draft and another year of information about the current core bring? Sean pitches the idea of making the Anthony Edwards bed on Scottie this summer with a big swing trade for someone like Mikal Bridges of the Brooklyn Nets.
