REPEAT JMU Dukes RELOAD Under Billy Napier — Quarterback Battle and Championship Hopes

Billy Napier returns to the Sun Belt, taking the helm at James Madison as the Dukes aim to defend their conference crown. Is Napier the key to keeping JMU atop the league? The conversation focused on his strategy for building a new roster—after losing most of the two-deep—while quarterback competition and the emergence of tight end Cole Keller headline the offense. Napier’s commitment to versatility in the secondary and depth at inside linebacker also come into play. A key theme that emerged was the unique journeys of players like Zach Greenberg, who moved from Division III to Sun Belt stardom, and Amar Thomas, the heart of JMU’s defense. The discussion explored the evolving team culture under Napier, comparisons between former coaches Bob Chesney and Curt Cignetti, and the challenge of meeting sky-high expectations after a championship season. Can the Dukes build on last year’s success and maintain their elite standard?
