Should the Sun Belt Bring BACK FIU to Replace JMU? | Sun Belt Podcast

Should FIU make a bold return to the Sun Belt Conference? The conversation focused on FIU’s football legacy, with memories of T.Y. Hilton electrifying crowds and Mario Cristobal leading the Panthers to a Little Caesars Bowl win. Insights include FIU’s recruitment advantages in South Florida’s fertile talent pool and its former Sun Belt ties, but questions loom about media impact and fan base, as Miami remains a pro and Hurricanes-dominated town. Several points were raised, including whether FIU’s Miami TV market is worth the gamble, given fragmented local loyalty and limited viewership despite the region’s size. The discussion explored how FIU’s return could hinge on pairing with FAU and how recruiting power balances against lackluster local support. Listeners are asked to weigh in on Sun Belt expansion targets, with other potential contenders like Jacksonville State and Kennesaw State on the radar. Can FIU recapture past glories—or should the Sun Belt look elsewhere?
