Yeah, that's that's tough for you 7:38 It's New York, it's a new season of Below Deck, 7:40 it's Salt Lake City. 7:41 OC sucks ass this year, I actually stopped watching it. 7:44 But it's like every night something is on 7:46 and then the Trey Tars. 7:48 You've got a lot going on. 7:50 There's Trey Tars regular people 7:51 and now there's Trey Tars celebrity coming back. 7:54 So it's to... 7:54 So you're booked and busy with TV. 7:56 I'm so booked and busy. 7:58 But I should probably read for my mind, 8:01 especially given the brain rot that I am consuming 8:05 on a regular basis. 8:06 Yeah, I can't stop singing hypocrisy and bullshit, bullshit. 8:11 I don't know what that is. 8:12 It's from Salt Lake City. 8:13 Okay, I was like, why? 8:15 I've had no one to talk to about it either. 8:17 I know, I'm sorry that I can't be. 8:18 I just wish you would brain rot. 8:20 I'll read a little more and you brain rot a little more. 8:23 I gotta pick one or the other. 8:26 I can't, I don't have time for both. 8:28 Okay, Capricorn. 8:29 My Gemini heart could never. 8:31 I can't pick one lane. 8:32 I gotta either read and write or watch TV. 8:35 This is not room for all of it. 8:36 Yeah, you have to write, too. 8:38 And to write, you have to read. 8:39 Exactly. 8:41 Kim, TV won't really help you with that. 8:44 I'm such a TV whore. 8:45 It's bad. 8:46 No, except I do, I still want to watch Carrie. 8:50 I'm just, I'm just struggling a little bit. 8:51 I want to watch it so bad, but I can't. 8:54 I'm struggling not because I, it's not good. 8:56 It's because I, the lead girl just breaks my heart. 9:00 She's, yeah. 9:02 Summer, I think her name is, 9:03 and she is phenomenal. 9:06 Do you know she's 22 years old? 9:07 I did not know that. 9:08 22 years old, I watched the first episode of Carrie 9:11 and it is incredible. 9:13 I just have such a hard time with bullying. 9:15 That's the thing, I want to reach in and just hug her. 9:18 Yeah, I want to get her out of there 9:19 before they drop the blood on her. 9:21 And she looks like somebody I love so much 9:24 that I can't handle it. 9:26 Yeah, so it kills me a little bit, 9:29 but I do want to watch the whole thing. 9:31 Well, when I heard that Mike Flanagan 9:32 and wants to make it three seasons. 9:34 Yeah. 9:34 And based off, I don't want to spoil anything for anybody, 9:36 but based off of something that happens 9:38 at the end of episode one, 9:40 I think I know where he might be going with that. 9:43 Yeah. 9:44 And I'm like, I want to enjoy that. 9:47 When I'm just, I'm like, 9:48 I'm down for whatever Mike Flanagan wants to do. 9:51 I mean, the thing is, we all know, 9:53 Carrie ends with a good for her moment. 9:55 Absolutely, it does. 9:56 So maybe I could have that see me through. 9:58 Yeah. 9:58 That's what I think. 9:59 Drew won't watch it with me though 10:00 because we watched the first one together 10:01 And he was like, no, I can't like it's too much and he gets way too upset. It's hard. Yeah, it's hard to watch. Yeah 10:08 The book is wild 10:11 You know, I've never read a Stephen King book. I have to read a Stephen King book 10:14 I know you need to read a Stephen King book. What Stephen King book do I read first? 10:17 I had John start with Salem's lot. Salem's lot. Um, and he loved it 10:22 I might have you start with something else. Yeah, but I have to think about it people listening to this podcast right now 10:27 Or like are you qualified to host this? 10:29 They're like nine years in, I feel like you're outing a lot of your secrets to me. 10:32 Are you even spooky? 10:34 Are you even spooky? 10:36 We'll get you there. 10:37 Yeah, I see. 10:38 And I was going to say, you know, that was my first thought. 10:41 I've seen the movie. 10:42 All right, confirmed then. 10:43 I was going to bring that up. 10:45 Misery is a great book. 10:47 The book is intense. 10:48 You think the movie's intense? 10:49 The book is really intense. 10:50 I love Kathy Beans. 10:52 But it's a great movie. 10:53 Okay. 10:53 A great book. 10:54 I mean, okay. 10:54 Misery, that's so funny. 10:56 Aiden held up a sign that said misery and in my head I was thinking misery and I was like, 11:00 but I'm gonna think through it. Okay. That confirmed it. So I guess I'm going to Barnes and Noble today. 11:06 That's books. Yeah. That's both. That's confessions. That's weather and that's reality TV. That's TV. 11:14 All right. I think we're good. So I hate your stopwatch. Cornelius. Cornelius. Go ahead. Hit 11:20 that stopwatch. Here we go. Because we're going to talk about the Union Screaming House 11:24 Tell me everything, I've never heard of that. 11:27 If that doesn't hook ya. 11:28 The union screaming house? 11:30 Yeah. 11:31 Just like a bunch of union workers yelling their heads off. 11:33 That's exactly it. 11:34 We can end the thing now, 11:35 because you just told the story. 11:36 Thank you guys for listening. 11:37 This was great. 11:38 We hope you keep us today. 11:38 We hope you. 11:41 No, that's not what it is, but. 11:43 She said, shut up. 11:44 So let's begin at the beginning. 11:47 Marley, when Stephen Lechance divorced his wife 11:51 in 1999. 11:52 We'll start there. 11:52 sad. Obviously divorce is tough. Tell me about it. I'm not a 11:57 child. I'm not getting divorced. Good job. The reddit threads 12:05 just popped off. Even though you just confirmed it, I'm sure 12:12 it's already still there. No, I'm a child. Holy shit. That's 12:15 why I was like, I child of divorce. You didn't even see it 12:18 that first I literally was like, don't go there. 12:20 Whoa, that was scary. 12:22 You gotta be careful up in these streets. 12:24 Any comment you make, Ken, then we'll be used to this. 12:27 It absolutely will. 12:28 I love my husband. 12:29 I was not a child of divorce. 12:31 No, you know. 12:32 Your parents had a beautiful marriage. 12:34 They really did. 12:35 They do. 12:35 I do. 12:35 Why am I saying that? 12:36 They are both very much still alive and in love. 12:39 No, they have always been in love. 12:43 So I'm very lucky with that. 12:44 But Steve's chance was not. 12:45 I don't know that my parents ever loved each other. 12:57 I don't know what I'm on today, babe. 13:00 I stayed up too late last night. 13:03 You were just letting it all hang out. 13:05 My dad is going to text me and be like, 13:07 I did love your mom like once. 13:08 Like once. 13:10 It's like for a minute. 13:12 I'm crying. 13:13 So obviously, Steve Blachance's life was kind of upended. 13:17 in ways that he never expected when he got divorced. 13:20 He was awarded sole custody of his three children, 13:23 so he found himself in desperate need of a place for them 13:26 to live on kind of short notice. 13:28 So he found an apartment at the last minute and moved. 13:32 The new place was not an ideal situation. 13:35 It was small, it was cramped. 13:36 An apartment with three kids has got to be tough. 13:38 Well, and it required his two boys, Eli and Elliot, 13:41 to share a bedroom. 13:42 But with so much disruption in their lives, 13:45 it was really just the best he could do. 13:46 We was trying his hardest. 13:48 Now the family spent two years in that apartment 13:50 before Stephen finally accepted 13:52 that he needed a larger space for his children. 13:55 But in the small town of Union, Missouri, 13:58 that's where that comes from. 13:59 There it is. 14:00 That was proving easier said than done. 14:03 Steve later said, 14:04 I had answered just about every ad in the newspaper 14:07 for rentals, but he was having no luck. 14:09 Finally, after weeks and weeks of searching, 14:11 he got a call from one of the landlords 14:13 he'd found through the paper. 14:14 the house he'd called about on North Christina Avenue 14:18 was still available. 14:19 And she suggested he come to an open house 14:21 that was being held that weekend. 14:23 Now, as soon as Stephen saw the house, 14:25 he knew this is it, this is perfectly what we need. 14:28 It had been well maintained. 14:30 It was in a good location. 14:31 And most importantly, it was very spacious. 14:34 His daughter Eliza said, 14:36 I thought the house was really neat. 14:37 I didn't have to be so close to my brothers. 14:40 So valid. 14:41 As they toured the house, 14:42 So Stephen and the kids couldn't get over how perfect this house seemed. 14:46 I bet it's not. 14:47 Stephen said, imagine if I'm like, and it was the end, the end. 14:51 And they screamed with. 14:53 OK, that was it. 14:56 Stephen said, it was more house than we ever imagined for the price. 15:00 That don't do something. 15:02 And we immediately decided we had to have it. 15:05 We have to have this house. 15:07 Good luck. 15:08 Now the family was wicked excited to get moved in. 15:11 he said, we had invested so much in this move emotionally, it wasn't just a normal move for 15:15 a family, it meant something. Now, as they were moving, the last of their belongings were being 15:21 moved into the house and a car slowed down alongside them. And from the passenger side window, 15:27 a voice called out, hope you get along okay here. And then the car sped away. 15:33 Ominous. And Steven couldn't see who it was or even acknowledged the comment because 15:38 because they just like sped away. 15:40 But he figured like, oh, that's probably one of like 15:43 the neighbors welcoming us to the area. 15:45 And they just, they just meant like, hope you get, 15:47 hope you have fun here. 15:48 You know what I mean? 15:48 Before anything happens, you wouldn't. 15:50 You would never think twice about that. 15:52 You just kind of be like, that was a weird way to say it. 15:54 Now the first few nights in the house 15:55 proved pretty uneventful. 15:57 And they just, you know, unpacked stuff, 15:59 got into setting up the house. 16:01 But as he walked through the house unpacking boxes, 16:04 he noticed something unusual. 16:06 All the interior doors had hook and eye latch fixtures on them. 16:11 Like the kinds you might find in an old cabin or an attic. 16:15 Okay. 16:15 A lot of my doors have those because of my cats. 16:18 Okay. 16:18 And the thing was the latches were on the outside of the doors, 16:22 as though they'd been put there to keep something from getting out, 16:25 rather than keep someone from coming in. 16:29 Okay. 16:30 That's weird. 16:31 Now, the first sign of trouble came a few days later. 16:35 as Steven was putting away the last of their stuff 16:37 in the living room, he had just hung a large framed picture 16:40 on the wall and turned to walk away 16:42 when he heard a big crash behind him 16:44 and he turned to find the picture had fallen off the wall. 16:47 Okay. 16:47 Now, thinking nothing of it, that shit happens. 16:50 He was just like, damn, 16:51 he was like that nail too far in the wall. 16:53 He re-hung the picture and started to walk away 16:55 when he heard a crash for the second time. 16:57 Sure enough, the picture had fallen to the floor again. 16:59 He said, we don't like your choice of art. 17:01 it took four tries for that picture 17:04 to sit in place without falling. 17:06 That's actually wild, but he tried that many times. 17:08 I give up after two. 17:09 I think he was like, 17:10 I want this art on the fucking wall. 17:12 I'm like, did you pay a lot for that? 17:14 And to be honest, 17:15 I probably would have done the same thing. 17:16 I'd be like, I chose this. 17:18 I put something in the, shut up. 17:20 Maybe I would do well in this house 17:21 because I'd submit to it's world. 17:22 Cause you just be like, all right. 17:24 I'd be like, your people, please. 17:25 I'll do the next one. 17:26 You don't like it, that's cool. 17:27 Yeah. 17:28 I'd be like, this is my house. 17:30 I want that one. 17:30 Be the red dammit. 17:32 Now, as Steven struggled with the picture 17:33 in the living room, 17:34 the children were having their own unusual experience 17:36 on the front porch. 17:38 It was Eliza who first noticed it. 17:40 Anytime someone passed by the house, 17:42 they appeared to become very uncomfortable. 17:45 Oh. 17:46 Eliza called out to her father 17:47 and told him to come outside, 17:48 where she told him about the strange behavior. 17:51 He said, 17:52 they don't like walking in front of our house, Dad. 17:54 Isn't that weird? 17:55 Huh. 17:56 Steven wasn't sure what to make of this. 17:58 Like, her claims really was like, what? 18:00 I was like, what do you mean? 18:01 So he sat outside for a while and watched. 18:03 He was like, okay, I'll see. 18:05 And sure enough, anytime someone passed by the house, 18:08 they appeared too quick in their pace. 18:10 No. 18:11 And a few times he called out a greeting, 18:13 but they just kept their heads down 18:14 and continued walking, 18:15 as though he hadn't said anything. 18:17 Okay, that's rude. 18:18 That's really rude. 18:19 Also, this real estate agent knew what the fuck was up 18:21 and it's fake of them not to share. 18:23 Very fake. 18:24 Stephen thought the whole thing was strange, 18:25 but he chalked it up to just like 18:27 an unfriendly neighborhood 18:28 and tried to put it on his head. 18:29 Such a bummer. 18:30 Yeah, you'd be like, damn. 18:31 Yeah. 18:32 Now when the weekend came, 18:33 the entire family spent the day in the backyard, 18:35 mowing and just cleaning up. 18:37 Having lived in an apartment for years, 18:39 they'd never had a yard to play in. 18:40 So Stephen was determined to make it as clean 18:43 and inviting and like kid-friendly as possible. 18:47 So far, I love his vibe. 18:48 I know. 18:49 Once he'd finished the mowing, 18:50 he asked Elliot to go down into the basement 18:52 to get the hose so they could wash down the walkways. 18:54 Good luck, babe. 18:56 Although they'd fallen in love 18:57 with the house immediately, 18:58 The basement was the one place the kids, 19:01 especially Elliot, seemed put off by. 19:03 Oh, why'd you ask him? 19:05 Maybe he didn't make it known before that. 19:07 Like many older homes in the region, 19:09 the basement had a fruit seller for storing jars, 19:12 but it also had an old butcher's shower 19:15 that the men would use at the end of the day. 19:17 What the fuck? 19:18 So like to not track the water or other debris 19:20 into the house. 19:22 Besides the shower was a bench and a large sink 19:25 and a spot traditionally used to butcher animals. 19:31 Cool. 19:32 Now the darkness and mustiness of the basement 19:35 was enough to make it a spooky place. 19:37 In the addition of the shower and sink 19:39 made it feel a little more unsettling. 19:41 It was just a weird vibe. 19:43 I don't love it. 19:43 Now a few minutes passed 19:44 and Steven was just about to check on his son 19:47 when he heard screaming coming from inside the house. 19:49 So he ran and he found Elliot in the kitchen 19:52 wide-eyed and terrified. 19:53 Oh. 19:54 Elliott told his father he had just grabbed the hose and turned to come back up the stairs 19:59 when he sensed something was behind him. 20:01 He dropped the hose and ran up the stairs as fast as he could, knowing that whatever was 20:05 behind him was chasing him. 20:07 Fuck that. 20:08 He said, I heard something come up after me coming up the steps. 20:11 I just freaked out, so I took off. 20:14 And Stephen and the other two kids went down to the basement to look around, but 20:17 there was nothing there. 20:18 Damn brave ass other kids. 20:19 But they found the garden hose on the floor where Elliott had dropped it to run. 20:23 And just to, there's different varying reports 20:27 about how old the children are. 20:28 I don't think it's been like, fully confirmed. 20:31 In case you're wondering, 20:32 I believe they're somewhere in the ages of like, 20:35 10 to 13, between three of them, you know what I mean? 20:38 But I'm not positive, so I don't wanna say it without. 20:42 Now, moving to a new home is obviously literally listed 20:47 among some of the most stressful experiences in life. 20:50 So Steven naturally just assumed his son's imagination had gotten the better of him and he was sympathetic. 20:56 He was like, yeah, that's it. 20:57 Well, they're also still dealing with the fact that their parents are the worst. 21:00 And also, I'm a grown-ass woman and if I go in the basement, I run up the stairs and every time I feel like something is chasing me. 21:09 Every time. 21:10 If you have a finished basement. 21:11 And I have a finished basement. 21:12 So like, that's legit. 21:16 I'm like, yeah. 21:17 Oh, bitch. 21:17 Mom, papa's basement. 21:18 Oh, fuck that basement. 21:20 That place, I won't even go in there. 21:21 It's so vast. 21:22 Oh, it's so scary. 21:24 Oh, it's so spooky. 21:35 This is a paid ad by BetterHelp. 21:37 Mental health initiatives like World Mental Health Day 21:40 are so important, 21:41 but you also have to remember 21:43 that your mental health should be priority 21:44 every single day, three, six, five, baby. 21:47 For some people, therapy can be one way 21:49 to support their mental wellbeing. 21:51 And remember, therapy isn't just 21:52 for big life choices either. 21:54 It can be a place to talk about 21:55 relationship problems, work issues, 21:57 or simply the sense that something feels off. 22:01 With over 30,000 therapists worldwide, 22:03 BetterHelp is one of the leading online therapy platforms 22:05 having served millions of people globally. 22:08 BetterHelp therapists have at least three years 22:10 and a thousand hours of hands-on experience. 22:13 Plus, BetterHelp makes it easy 22:15 to fit therapy into your routine 22:16 with flexible ways to connect 22:18 that work for different schedules and lifestyles. 22:20 Your mental health doesn't need a special occasion 22:23 or anybody else's permission to matter. 22:25 BetterHelp can connect you with a therapist 22:27 who gets you so you can make space for what matters to you. Now, by June, they had been in the house for a few months, 23:52 but aside from Elliott, the LeChance family had found ways to dismiss the odd occurrences 23:56 and occasional discomfort as nothing more than just adjusting to a new house. 24:01 That's a coping mechanism. 24:02 One night, on the last day of the school year, Stephen took the kids out for dinner. 24:06 He was fairly certain they had turned off all the lights before they left the house, 24:10 but when they returned home, it appeared that every single light had been turned on in the 24:15 house. That's so rude because electricity is not cheap. 24:18 No, and he said, when I walked into the house, I was a little shaken. 24:22 There was no logical reason for all the lights to be on other than someone in our house. 24:27 So thinking someone might have broken in, he searched every room, every nook and cranny 24:31 in the house, but every door and window was closed and locked. 24:35 That's so fucking weird. 24:36 Now as Steven wandered through the house checking each room, he heard Eliza call 24:40 out to him from the living room, asking why it was so cold in the house. 24:43 Ooh. 24:44 In the excitement of checking, he hadn't noticed the temperature. 24:48 But now that she pointed it out, he was like, actually, yeah, it is actually really cold. 24:52 And it was like late spring. 24:53 Yeah. 24:54 So he was like, it shouldn't be this cold. 24:55 Checking the temperature, he noticed that it was almost 30 degrees colder in the house 25:00 than it was outside. 25:01 What the fuck? 25:02 Yeah. 25:03 You can't even like make that happen with a thermostat. 25:05 Stephen said that was the first time I felt its presence. 25:08 It felt like an electrical current running through my body, bringing tears to my eyes 25:12 and bumps to my arms. 25:13 Oh, wow. 25:14 When the feeling finally passed, 25:15 he noticed that the temperature in the house 25:17 had started to rise again. 25:19 And within a few minutes, 25:20 it was as though nothing had happened. 25:23 Weird. 25:23 Yeah. 25:24 That night, the kids were watching a movie 25:26 with their dad in Steven's bedroom. 25:28 He sounds like such a cute dad. 25:30 He does, and they were probably so scared. 25:31 So he's probably like, you know what? 25:32 When Elliot told his father 25:34 he needed to go to the bathroom. 25:35 By that time, Steven had accepted 25:37 that his children were struggling 25:38 to adjust to the new house. 25:40 But at the age that, you know, 25:41 So, Elliot was, he insisted you can go to the bathroom 25:45 by yourself, especially since it was right down the hall 25:48 from the bathroom. 25:49 Well, you're trying to teach independence. 25:50 Yeah, he was like, I don't want to go to the bathroom. 25:52 He's like, we actually did that for a lot of your life. 25:55 We do need to stop doing that. 25:56 And Elliot reluctantly accepted that 25:58 and nervously began walking down the long hall 26:00 to get to the bathroom at the other end. 26:03 Just before he reached the bathroom door, 26:05 Elliot was startled when the hallway light blew out, 26:09 plunging him into relative darkness. 26:11 He had almost no time to react to that surprise, however, 26:15 because he was immediately terrified by the distinct sense 26:18 that he was no longer alone in that hallway. 26:21 Stop saying that to me. 26:22 Before he could turn to run or even call out, 26:25 the presence made itself known 26:27 in the form of a large and menacing clown. 26:32 No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. 26:36 Yeah. 26:36 No. 26:37 The thing that Elliot was most afraid of. 26:40 No. 26:40 It's like it. 26:42 Ew. 26:43 Literally just his fears. 26:44 Oh, I think of Widow's Bay when he's like chasing 26:46 the Maritime. Oh my God, that's it. 26:48 Fucked me up. 26:50 And he said of that moment, 26:51 I was never that scared in my whole life. 26:53 I don't blame you little buddy. 26:54 So he turned and ran screaming back 26:57 to his father's bedroom, 26:58 bursting through the door 26:59 and yelling about a monster in the hall. 27:01 And he told, and again, he's like between 10 and 13. 27:04 Yeah. 27:05 And he told his father and siblings what had happened. 27:07 But despite having had his own experience earlier 27:09 of that night, Steven was still unable to accept that there was a clown in the hallway. 27:15 Valid. 27:15 And that, you know, he might be something wrong with the house. 27:20 For that matter, Eliza and Eli had also yet to have any frightening experiences. 27:24 So they just kind of thought that Elliot was like being irrational going through it. 27:30 You know, that said, they could see how truly frightened he was by whatever happened 27:33 in the hall. 27:34 So they did. 27:35 They didn't tease him. 27:36 They like, you know, comforted him. 27:38 Yeah. 27:38 Although they said, you know, they were like, at the time, I wanted to, of course. 27:42 Now two days passed without any incidents, which led Steven to hope that whatever it was that was making everyone uncomfortable, it had passed. 27:49 The next morning, he was to leave to work to go to a trip across the state, 27:54 and the kids were going to be staying with their grandparents until he returned. 27:57 And as they sat in the living room going over the plan, 28:00 Steven thought he saw something moving in the kitchen out of the corner of his eye. 28:04 At first, he thought it might have been a shadow or just like a trick of the light, 28:07 But then he realized it wasn't a something, but a someone in the kitchen. 28:12 Fixing his gaze on the darkness in the kitchen while trying not to alert the children that 28:17 he was seeing something, he saw what he later described as, quote, a dark figure of a man. 28:23 He was solid in form, except there was a moving, churning, dark gray, black smoke or 28:30 mist that made up his form. 28:32 What the fuck? 28:33 He looked down and rubbed his eyes because he was like, I'm hallucinating. 28:36 He was just hoping that when he looked up, 28:38 it was gonna be gone and he could just chalk it up 28:40 to having like a stroke or something. 28:41 He was like, I'm just hoping that's what it is. 28:43 But when he looked back at the kitchen, it was still there. 28:46 And it was moving towards the living room 28:48 until finally disappearing 28:50 before he crossed from one room to another. 28:52 What? 28:54 It was in that moment that Steven was like, 28:57 yeah, we can't ignore this anymore. 28:58 Yeah, we gotta get fucked out of here. 29:01 And he said, you remember telling himself, 29:03 I have two choices. 29:04 We could run out of the house screaming 29:05 into the night like those crazies you always see in the movies. 29:08 Do it. 29:09 Or we could get up quietly, leave the house, and figure all this out. 29:13 Okay. 29:13 So not wanting to frighten his children, Steven stood up and said, 29:18 why don't we just like get out and you know, let's go get a soda somewhere 29:22 before we go to grandparent's house. 29:24 Period. 29:25 Like let's just go get a soda. 29:26 Yeah, let's get a soda. 29:28 Yeah, let's get a soda. 29:29 Diet coke cures all, so. 29:32 Not having seen the thing in the kitchen, all kids were like, hell yeah. 29:35 Yeah, let's get a SOTY, do this. 29:38 And he's just ushering them quickly out of the house, 29:40 being like, soda, soda time, soda pop, let's go. 29:44 He was like in K-pop time. 29:45 Yeah, he was like, oh, he was the, 29:49 what is it, the Saja boys? 29:50 Yeah, the Saja boys. 29:51 Grabbing his keys as he all but pushed 29:53 the children out of the house. 29:55 Steven could hear what he described as 29:58 a loud, painful scream of a man 30:02 coming from inside the house. 30:05 What? 30:06 That was when the children realized 30:09 that they were not leaving for a SOTY pop, 30:11 but were in fact running from a fucking threat 30:15 because they also heard it. 30:16 A man screaming? 30:19 Yep. 30:20 At the sound of the wailing coming from inside the house, 30:24 all four members of the family broke into a fucking run 30:27 and jumped into the car. 30:29 Sobbing? 30:29 Steven backed like Tokyo Drift style out of the driveway. 30:34 But before they pulled away, Elliot said, 30:39 are you ready for your whole body? 30:40 No, no, no, no, no. 30:41 Elliot's like a medium, I think. 30:43 Elliot said, daddy, the basement monster 30:45 is standing in the upstairs window. 30:47 Ah! 30:56 So gross and weird. 30:57 This is even worse, because Steven said, sure enough, 31:00 when he looked, turned a look, 31:02 he saw the thing from the kitchen 31:04 looking at them from the second floor window. 31:06 I am a goose bump. 31:08 I'm literally- 31:09 I am a goose bump. 31:10 I'm goose bumpy. 31:11 I'm covered. Ew, ew. 31:17 Gross. 31:17 And it's just screaming. 31:19 Like painful wailing. 31:21 Get the fuck out me window. 31:23 Yeah. 31:24 That night they all slept at the grandparents' house. 31:27 Oh, I would never go back. 31:29 In the next morning. 31:29 Literally demolition derby my house. 31:31 And he had to go to the trip the next morning because it's work. 31:34 Like he can't afford, he's in charge of all three of these children. 31:37 I can't breathe. 31:38 So he can't afford to not go on this trip. 31:41 Yeah, and so he's got to now and luckily they can stay with the grandparents 31:45 But he also has to tell his parents like yeah, there's a menace to society in our home 31:49 And I don't even know if he did I think he was just like holy shit, but 31:53 While he was away and out of the house and this does make sense like when you really think about it 31:57 Oh, God, what are you gonna say while he was away and out of the house? 32:00 He said it became a little easier for him to convince himself like 32:05 Something else is going on. Yeah, I get because he said time away. He's on the trip 32:09 like he's away from it all. 32:11 I think it's easy to be like, you know what? 32:12 I think we're all being crazy. 32:13 Well, in your brain, like naturally wants to rationalize. 32:16 And you want to believe this. 32:17 And he's like, you know. 32:19 I'd be so pissed if my dad came back though. 32:20 I was like, you know what? 32:21 That didn't happen. 32:21 We didn't see that. 32:22 Well, his whole thing was like this move 32:25 and the divorce have been 32:28 extremely emotionally taxing for all of us. 32:29 For everyone, right? 32:30 And it's been an expensive one. 32:33 And he had to put all his financial resources 32:35 into this house. 32:36 so he just wasn't ready to be like, you get it. 32:40 He put everything into this house for his kids 32:43 and he's like, we can't just let it go. 32:45 Like, so I can't believe that it's being haunted by demons. 32:49 That's why demons, they know when you're broke. 32:51 Yeah. Demons know when you're broke. 32:53 That's the thing. 32:53 And that's the thing. 32:54 So even if they could have gotten out of the lease 32:56 of this house, because they were leasing it. 32:58 It would cost something. 32:59 There was no money to find another apartment or something. 33:02 Like they just, all the money was in this house. 33:03 So it's like, where would they go? 33:05 So taking some advice from his mom when Steven returned home, he called the landlord. 33:10 Landlord. 33:11 I always say that. 33:12 You do that so quickly. 33:14 Why do I do that? 33:15 Landlord. 33:15 Landlord. 33:16 He called up the landlord on the landline. 33:19 Because it's a landlord, but then like landlady. 33:22 You're just being inclusive. 33:23 So I just combined them. 33:24 Landlord. 33:25 Landlord. 33:25 So he called the landlord. 33:27 Okay. 33:27 To ask some questions about the property. 33:30 Super duper fair. 33:31 Yeah. 33:32 Yeah, the house had been rented through a realtor, and aside from signing the lease 33:35 upon moving in, he had really never had a conversation with the homeowner. 33:39 Might I say a fake-ass realtor? 33:41 And he didn't quite know how to ask about what was going on. 33:45 Yeah, why do you word that? 33:46 Without sounding really strange. 33:47 So choosing his words carefully, Steven asked about whether the previous tenants had 33:51 ever complained about anything unusual happening in the house, but when it was clear she 33:56 didn't quite understand what he was getting at, which I was like, that you did. 33:59 You absolutely did. 34:00 He asked outright whether anyone had ever reported seeing ghosts in the house. 34:04 He was like, you want me to say it? 34:05 You know what, I'm not fucking around. 34:06 To his surprise, the landlord took the questions in stride and hesitated before saying, 34:14 there was one tenant that claimed her dead father had come to visit her. 34:17 Fantastic. 34:18 But the landlord had always thought the woman was a little strange, 34:20 so she didn't think much of it. 34:22 She's like, now I think you're strange. 34:23 Yeah, now I think you're weird. 34:24 And it turned out that the woman who claimed her father had visited 34:27 had left some things in the shed behind the house. 34:30 So she can roll up and take them on out. 34:33 Oh yeah, and also she refused to come back to get them. 34:35 That's also fake as fuck. 34:36 Which tells you something. 34:38 She doesn't want to come back to that property. 34:41 That should tell you something right there. 34:42 When people leave all their shit 34:44 and say I'm not coming back to get it. 34:45 That's not my responsibility though, landlady. 34:47 That's your responsibility. 34:48 That's scary. 34:48 Get that weird shit out of there. 34:49 Yeah. 34:50 What's left there? 34:50 Now when Steven checked, he found them exactly 34:53 where the previous tenant had left them. 34:55 Hadn't touched it. 34:57 There were several items left behind 34:58 by another tenant before her as well, 35:01 a man who lived there years earlier 35:03 and had left in the middle of the night. 35:06 And the landlady is like, yeah, I don't know. 35:08 She's a fake bitch. 35:11 She's like, that's crazy. 35:14 But otherwise, she couldn't recall anything else strange happening. 35:17 It's just like people leaving in the middle of the night 35:19 with all their belongings in a shed. 35:22 They go, okay, that's fine. Nothing to see here. 35:24 So needless to say, 35:25 This phone call did very little to alleviate Steven's anxiety, 35:29 but he had no other choice but to return to the house. 35:32 When is it gonna get so bad that they leave all their belongings? 35:35 We'll get there. So when the weekend came to an end, 35:37 he picked up the kids at his parents' house, 35:39 and they all returned home. 35:41 The dread within me if I had to drive back to that home. 35:46 Now that night, Steven was downstairs on the phone 35:48 while the kids were upstairs. 35:50 He was like deep in conversation with his mother 35:53 when he heard the French doors that led into his bedroom being shaken. 35:58 Thinking the kids were playing in his room, because kids do that, 36:01 he yelled out for them to get out of his room and leave the doors alone. 36:04 I also, can I just say I love a French door? 36:06 I do too. 36:06 I love a French door so deeply. 36:08 Me too. 36:09 There were a few moments of silence, then he heard the doors rattling again, 36:13 this time harder and louder than they had before. 36:16 So annoyed, he's like, hey, guys, stop. 36:19 When Eliza replied to say she was in her bedroom reading, 36:22 and Eli and Elliot were asleep in their room. 36:25 Gross. 36:27 Now, Steven's heart dropped into his fucking stomach 36:29 at this point and he nearly dropped the phone. 36:32 And before he could respond to Eliza, 36:34 he noticed the temperature in the kitchen drop down again. 36:37 Nor. 36:38 Followed by the feeling of the electrical current 36:40 running through his body. 36:41 Quitting him in place. 36:42 Quitting. 36:43 This time, the experience was accompanied 36:45 by a terrible, putrid smell. 36:48 Oh, I don't like when that happened. 36:49 He said like something was dead and rotten in the room with him. 36:54 Then the screaming started. 36:56 Not again. 36:57 At first it was quiet, as though it was coming from somewhere like deep in the house, 37:01 but it quickly picked up momentum until it drowned out every other sound in the house. 37:08 It was terrible, agonized screams. 37:12 What the fuck happened in this house? 37:14 It was full screams, but not long after it began, 37:17 it felt like the whole house started to shake, 37:19 like they were experiencing an earthquake. 37:21 I'm not a religious girly, but call a priest. 37:23 Yeah, call someone. 37:24 Call the deacon. 37:25 Yeah. 37:26 Call the deacon. 37:27 I don't even know his job. 37:28 I don't know. 37:28 Call the pope, yeah. 37:30 Now, Steven was able to drop the phone 37:32 and began to move when he heard what sounded like footsteps 37:36 that sounded like they were coming from an impossibly large man 37:39 coming down the stairs. 37:40 Never an impossibly large man. 37:42 Each one was coinciding with like a jolt that shook the house. 37:46 There's a fucking jolly green giant up in this bitch. 37:49 by then the children had been alerted and Eliza was calling out to her father from the second floor 37:54 and the terrible sound of this man's agonizing screams were mixed with Eliza screaming out in terror. 38:03 I am so overstimulated. 38:06 And he said that's the reason he could move finally because he wasn't able to move at first. 38:09 He felt like paralyzed when he said when I heard my daughter screaming and this 38:12 entity screaming I was able to move. 38:15 Right now I'm really in a place of Steven forever. 38:17 Like feeling like something was pursuing him through the house. 38:20 He ran to the stairs. 38:21 I'm also like, sorry, is his mom hearing this 38:24 on the other end of the phone? 38:26 Do you know? 38:26 I don't know. 38:27 Okay. 38:28 But he's like skipping steps as he's like running up 38:31 to get the kids. 38:32 And when he reaches the second floor, 38:34 Steven yelled out to Eli to grab his younger brother 38:36 and get outside to the car. 38:38 Eliza, on the other hand, was frozen in place 38:40 with terror and would not move. 38:42 She just always like paralyzed. 38:44 Literally, tag yourself with me. 38:45 She desperately tried to get his daughter 38:47 to snap back to reality, like we gotta get out of here. 38:50 All the while listening to those loud footsteps 38:52 and screaming happening. 38:54 I'm like, just throw over your shoulder, 38:56 you gotta get out of there. 38:57 Now by then, the screams had morphed 39:00 into something truly unnerving. 39:03 Bitch, that wasn't truly unnerving? 39:05 It sounded like the man's agonized screams 39:08 had mixed with the voice of a child. 39:11 Get the thought out of here. 39:13 They're screaming at the same time with the same intensity. 39:17 What do you mean? 39:19 What do you mean? 39:21 So knowing that they need to get the fuck out of there right then, Stephen could think of 39:26 no other way to motivate Eliza, which you might back off. 39:31 Say, can I scream? 39:32 He slapped her. 39:33 Oh, Stephen. 39:35 I'm only laughing because you were just like, I am so first, Stephen. 39:39 But you know what I said? 39:40 I made sure. 39:40 You did. 39:41 You held that. 39:42 I know this is the 90s and I'm going to be in a place of with what I know right now. 39:47 It's the 90s and you got to get her out of the house. I'm not saying I would slap my child. 39:52 I'm just saying like, there's a lot going on. I don't know if he tried. Do you even lift bro? 39:58 Do you even lift bro? I don't know if he tried to and couldn't lift her. Like if she was like 40:02 stuck in place or something. I do not know what was actually happening. 40:05 Listen, desperate times. It did finally wake her up. Like he said she was in like a trance. 40:10 So he was doing the thing you see in movies, which is like snap out of it. 40:14 She's hysterical. 40:15 Again, I would not be slapping my child in the face, 40:18 but I have also not been in this situation. 40:20 Yeah, okay. 40:21 So she was brought back to reality, taking Eliza by the hand. 40:25 He fled down the stairs and out the door, 40:27 as the house was shaking violently and cries of pain were echoing all over. 40:31 In a man's voice and a child's voice screaming at the same time. 40:36 Not synonymously. 40:38 Synonym? 40:38 Why can't I talk simultaneously? 40:39 Simultaneously. 40:40 No, outside he packs all his children into the car and just drives down the street parking 40:45 at the top of a hill where he could still see the house, but we're far enough away 40:49 out of danger. 40:49 Do the neighbors hear this shit? 40:51 They must, because that's why they're like- 40:53 They're all freaked out. 40:54 When he got there, he called his parents and told them what happened, and they were 40:57 like, hey, you should bring the kids to our house, and we'll all figure out 41:01 a plan together. 41:02 I'm glad they believed him. 41:03 Yeah. 41:03 They were like, sure. 41:04 Now, before driving away, he remembers seeing the swirling mass through the window 41:08 going room to room, as though we're still hunting for them 41:12 unaware that they had fled from the house. 41:14 Oh. 41:15 Yeah. 41:17 The Lechance children never returned to the house 41:20 after that meeting. 41:20 I'm so glad to hear that. 41:21 I'm so good at move, but we're back on Stephen's side. 41:25 Stephen went back a few more times 41:27 to collect some of their belongings, 41:28 always bringing someone with him. 41:30 He never went by himself. 41:32 He said, everyone I brought into that house with me 41:35 would also witness something happen. 41:36 a scream, whispers, pounding from the floor above. 41:41 It was not selective anymore 41:42 at who it let hear its fury. 41:54 With the seasons changing, 41:55 now is the perfect time to get ahead 41:57 of the cold and flu season, honey, 41:59 we know what's coming for us. 42:01 But staying prepared shouldn't mean overpaying 42:03 for your prescriptions. 42:04 And that's where GoodRx comes in. 42:06 GoodRx makes it easy to take control of your health 42:08 and your budget with savings 42:09 on preventative cold and flu medications 42:11 and your everyday prescriptions. 42:13 GoodRx is free and it's super easy to use. 42:16 All you have to do is search for your medication on their website or their app, compare prices, 42:20 and bring the free coupon to show your pharmacist. 42:23 Check GoodRx to save at over 70,000 local pharmacies nationwide, including Walmart, Walgreens, 42:29 CVS, Publix, Kroger, and many more. 42:32 Or get prescriptions delivered right to Yadoa. 42:34 That's convenience. 42:35 Remember, GoodRx is not insurance, but it works whether you have insurance or not, 42:39 and it could be your insurance copay price. 42:41 That happens to me more often than not. 42:43 I'm always finding a good coupon on GoodRx. 42:45 Save time and money on your prescriptions this season. 42:48 Check out GoodRx at goodrx.com slash morbid. 42:51 That's goodrx.com slash morbid. 42:56 Ready to upgrade your PC? 42:58 Shop now during the Dell Top Tech event 43:00 and find the award-winning tech the experts trust the most. 43:04 Like the Dell XPS 13 laptop. 43:07 Study, work, and do more with a thin and light design. 43:10 We love to see it. 43:11 A vivid touch screen, long-lasting battery life, 43:14 with my favorite and impressive performance 43:17 powered by Intel Core processors. 43:19 While shopping, you'll also find great prices 43:21 on monitors and accessories and even perks 43:24 like Dell rewards, fast free shipping 43:26 and financing with flexible payment options. 43:29 Visit dell.com slash deals, that's dell.com slash deals. 43:38 As a former stylist, 43:40 I have seen a lot of types of hair damage 43:42 and there's all different kinds. 43:43 There's over-processed, overheated. 43:46 My clients were always like, 43:47 girl, what can you do? Fuck her. Fuck that bitch. I would have a hard 45:14 I'm not like spinning in that bitch's sake. 45:15 Slap her. 45:17 Slap her. 45:18 Slap her. 45:18 I would have spit on it. 45:19 No, don't hurt women. 45:20 I'm just kidding. 45:20 But like, no. 45:23 That's fucked up. 45:23 Fuck her. 45:24 Fucked up. 45:24 Like he has children. 45:25 Like you're an asshole. 45:26 She really said I thought you were cut out for this, but I guess not. 45:29 And then she was like, I didn't think you had it in you. 45:31 You go live there then. 45:32 You own the property. 45:33 Yeah. 45:33 You let him with three children move into that house, you asshole. 45:35 Yeah. 45:36 And she's like, it's just old. 45:37 I'm like, yeah, I've lived in old houses. 45:38 They never screamed at me. 45:42 Yeah, they never screamed at you. 45:44 me. Now, Steven and the children stayed with his parents for a few months until he was able 45:48 to find something new. 45:49 Oh, poor Steven. 45:50 And in the meantime, the owner of the house on North Christina Avenue began showing the 45:54 house to new potential renters. 45:56 She should stop doing that. 45:58 Or he should. 45:58 Yeah, by the end of the month, Linda Marsh, Emmett Brice and their daughter Ashley moved 46:03 into the house. 46:04 Not Ashley. 46:05 Not Ashley. Linda said, we thought we'd hit the jackpot. 46:09 You didn't. 46:09 It just felt so comfortable in there and it was like home. 46:11 It's weird how it almost seems like it welcomes them. 46:15 Yeah, it welcomes them. 46:16 Yeah, it gives them a false sense of security. 46:18 This house is a man. 46:19 It is. 46:20 No, during a toxic man. 46:21 This house is a toxic man. 46:23 During the day, Ashley is away at school and Emmett's at work. 46:26 So Linda was home just unpacking. 46:28 By then. 46:29 And just as in the case of Stephen Lechance, 46:31 the unusual activity started almost immediately. 46:34 One afternoon, just a few days after moving in, 46:37 Linda was unpacking boxes in the living room 46:39 when she started hearing noises coming from the floor above her, 46:42 as though someone was moving furniture around. 46:46 She immediately is very uneasy, 46:48 as though she's like, I feel like someone's watching me now. 46:52 Like she could get that like weird feeling. 46:54 And she was like, but I knew no one else was in the house. 46:57 So what am I hearing? 46:58 And why am I feeling like someone's watching me? 47:00 And she said, most of my thoughts 47:01 were that someone was in the house. 47:03 I didn't know what I was gonna run into. 47:04 It was scary. 47:06 Now later that night, 47:07 Ashley was putting away her things in her bedroom when she, again, started hearing noises. 47:12 Now the daughter is. This time they were coming from the hallway directly outside the bedroom. 47:19 She said it sounded like slamming doors that started softly and grew louder the longer it went on. 47:25 Okay. So she's terrified. So she runs downstairs and finds her parents sitting in the kitchen 47:30 and she told them about what she'd heard and her father immediately was like, 47:34 No. Like you didn't hear it. He's no Stephen. Not a Stephen. Until Linda, his wife, shared her own 47:41 experiences about what she heard when she was alone in the house. For Ashley, her mother's support 47:45 was validating, but it didn't do a lot to make the anxiety go away. Now, on the other side of 47:51 union, Stephen Lechance was trying to get settled into his new home with his children, 47:55 but he was plagued by dreams of the night they fled the screaming house. That's called 48:00 Traumatized PTSD he can't help but feel like the dreams or some kind of warning 48:04 Like he had an obligation to inform the new residents of what they experienced. He's a good man Savannah 48:10 After a few weeks Stephen finally got up the nerve to introduce himself to Linda and Emmett 48:16 But you know what is so cool all these other fake ass bitches were just scurrying just my he went back 48:22 Yeah, he did and he helped a friend. Yeah, but he said now he was gonna have to choose his words carefully 48:28 so as not to frighten them or give them reason 48:31 to dismiss his story. 48:33 Although both Lyndon and Emmett listened politely 48:35 as Steven recounted what happened to his family, 48:38 it was only Linda who believed him 48:39 and felt as though rolling up on your property 48:42 and being like, hey. 48:44 This is what me and my three kids experienced 48:46 in your house and I just wanna let you know. 48:48 That's a movie. 48:48 And imagine your husband being like, I don't believe you. 48:51 I would fuck him up. 48:52 Even though you and your daughter 48:53 have already had experiences. 48:54 I'd be so pissed off. 48:55 Now, and she thought he could help. 48:57 And she, Stephen later said, my advice to Linda 49:00 from the beginning was to get out. 49:02 I mean, it made a whole house shake. 49:04 If it can do that, I know it can hurt you. 49:06 Yeah. 49:07 And he's right. 49:08 Now, the more time they spent in the house, 49:10 the worse the activity became, 49:11 especially for teenage Ashley, 49:13 who was already struggling to adjust to a new home 49:15 and a new school. 49:17 One night, while Ashley was in the backyard 49:19 talking to a friend on the telephone, 49:21 she spotted something unidentifiable hanging 49:23 from one of the tree branches. 49:25 When she got close enough to identify it, she was, this is, like, yeah. 49:32 Animal? 49:33 This is a, this isn't real. 49:36 Okay. 49:37 But she saw it. 49:38 Okay. 49:40 Trigger warning. 49:42 Ashley was horrified to see it was the body of an infant hanging upside down by a rope tied around its ankle. 49:50 She dropped her phone, she ran inside to get her mother screaming, 49:55 but when they returned to the backyard, there was nothing there. 49:57 What the fuck? 49:58 So she had just been like shown this. 50:01 What the fuck? 50:03 Yeah. 50:03 Little Elliot sees a clown and she sees a dead infant. 50:06 Hung upside down by its ankles from a tree. 50:09 How do you ever come back from that? 50:10 And who would make that up? 50:13 Yeah. 50:14 How do you even make that up? 50:15 No. 50:15 I actually expected you to say it was like a cat or something. 50:18 That's what I would have expected and I was gonna be still upset. Now. I'm even more upset now for Linda 50:24 This was very alarming and more than a little unbelievable because like what the fuck yeah, and she said at that point 50:30 I was really concerned that she was having some kind of mental problems 50:33 I mean yeah, I don't know health crisis. She said and my first concern was drugs 50:38 I accepted the fact that she was hearing noises because I did too but as far as seeing things 50:42 I was not seeing the things that she was Linda said bitch you're tripping. She said what's going on? 50:46 It wasn't just that Linda hadn't seen what her daughter saw, but it was all part of a 50:51 noticeable shift in Ashley's behavior as well. 50:54 She was angrier than she had ever been in the past. 50:56 She stopped sharing things with her parents, and she was becoming defiant. 51:00 Yeah, because they moved her into a haunted-ass house. 51:02 Now, a few days after Ashley told her mother about the baby in the tree, Linda received 51:06 a notice that Ashley had been skipping school with surprising regularity. 51:11 When Linda confronted her, she didn't deny skipping classes and deflected by telling 51:15 her how much she disliked their new circumstances. Okay. As they were talking, Linda noticed a cut on 51:21 her daughter's arm just above the cuff of her sleeve. And when she pulled up the entire sleeve, 51:25 she noticed and trigger warning again. She discovered that Ashley had been cutting herself 51:30 extensively in order to deal with the stress and negative feelings. Awful. 51:34 Fearful that this could lead to something a lot worse. Yeah. 51:38 Emmett and Linda took her to the hospital where she was admitted for psychiatric observation. 51:43 Now, although he still refused to accept that their new home could be haunted, Elliot could 51:48 see how the experience was affecting his family, obviously, and reluctantly agreed to allow 51:53 Linda and Steven to invite a local paranormal research group to the house. 51:58 Okay. 51:58 Because he, I think that, seeing that must be like, okay, something is wrong here. 52:03 A few days later, local psychic medium Betsy Belanger and her group, the St. Louis 52:07 Ghost Search, arrived at the house to see what they could uncover. 52:11 cover. Now, Bellinger said, when we first walked into the home, we felt spirit activity. 52:17 I could tell that it was not human and that it was something otherworldly, and exactly 52:20 what it was, I had no idea. As they walked from one room to the next, the team used a 52:26 boom microphone to record any sounds or incidents. And it was while they were searching one 52:30 of the bedrooms that the audio engineer began hearing a man's voice speaking softly. 52:35 But the sound is muddled, and he couldn't make out what the voice was saying. At 52:40 At the same time, Betsy began to sense the presence of an older man in the corner of 52:45 the room. 52:46 She said he was not shying away from us, he was just observing what we were doing while 52:50 we were there. 52:51 So the group stood like perfectly still for a few minutes, and eventually they were 52:56 able to make out what the voice was saying. 52:58 I don't even know if I want to know, but I do want to know. 53:01 This is my house. 53:03 Have it. 53:04 I'd be like, yep, correct. 53:06 Bye. 53:06 All you. 53:07 when they were finished walking through the house. 53:10 What the fuck was that? 53:12 Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, I don't know. 53:12 No, it was my phone. 53:13 Oh my God. 53:15 How dare you? 53:18 Oh my God, I think I just peed. 53:21 Oh. 53:24 You have to keep it. 53:28 That was so scary. 53:30 I just went silent. 53:32 I was like, my entire ass lifted off this chair, 53:35 my whole body. 53:37 It was like, Zwinkies. 53:39 I did. Holy shit. That was so scary because it shook the floor and I was like it was loud 53:47 it boomed it shook the floor. Fuck you for that. Oh my god. All right. Holy shit. I'm 53:58 so scared even though I know what that was. That was scary. Aiden's phone. When they 54:06 were finished walking through that. Oh my god. My stomach out. Betsy reported back 54:11 to Linda what they discovered. She believed the male spirit was that of a former occupant 54:16 who had not moved on, obviously, wanted to drive the new occupants out. The more concerning 54:21 problem though was in Ashley's room. Betsy said it was not pleasant. It was not a pleasant 54:27 place to be. Although she couldn't be sure whether the force in Ashley's bedroom was 54:32 a spirit or a poltergeist, she felt relatively certain that Ashley had telekinetic abilities 54:39 and at least some of the, or psychokinetic, excuse me, abilities, and at least some of 54:45 the phenomena they had been experiencing had been a result of her negative feelings, like 54:50 feeding on it. 54:51 Oh, okay. 54:51 Like it was one of those things where it like draws on it. 54:54 We've talked about cases before that happens with teenage energy, especially like puberty. 55:00 There was also the matter of the spirit in the basement, which the team believed 55:04 was that of a former owner as well. 55:06 Well, the spirit was extremely negative and angry and it too seemed to determine, seemed 55:13 determined to force Linda and Emmett out of the house. 55:15 Given everything they'd experienced so far, Betsy predicted the activity would only get 55:20 worse and suggested that if they don't think they can live with that reality, then they 55:25 should seriously consider moving out of this house. 55:27 So there's two former owners that are, this is like a demonic HOI, or just a regular 55:35 one to be quite honest. Period. I think this is just the HOA. 55:39 When we were searching for houses, I was like, I will not do an HOA because I will, I will be fine. 55:45 Now, up to that point, Emmett had still not had any of his own experiences with the paranormal. 55:49 It was convinced his wife and daughter were misidentifying 55:53 ordinary phenomenon, which I was like, I don't like him, babe. 55:57 I don't like him at all. That all changed though. 55:58 Good. A few nights after Betsy and the St. Louis 56:01 a ghost search team visited the house. 56:03 He and Linda were asleep in bed 56:06 when he was awoken by some sound 56:09 in the corner of their bedroom. 56:10 As his eyes adjusted to the dark, 56:13 he could see something moving by the foot of his bed, 56:16 though he couldn't tell what it was. 56:18 The sight caused him to bolt upright. 56:21 And when he did the figure at the end of the bed, 56:23 darted back into the corner and disappeared. 56:26 And he said, so now I've seen it 56:28 and I believe it because I've seen it myself, you should, which also is pretty fucked up to say 56:34 like your daughter and wife have also seen it. I was gonna say, believe your family asshole. 56:40 But like, he's glad that you believe it. Now I've seen it. Okay, you want to see it? 56:43 Happy you believe it. You're the end all be all buddy. 56:46 Now, while Emmett and Linda considered their options for dealing with the house, 56:49 Steven decided to do his own research into local records. He was not done 56:53 using the information provided by Betsy. 56:57 He discovered that the property dated back 56:59 to the Civil War and had been the home of John Crow, 57:03 a captain in the Confederate army and an owner 57:08 of enslaved people. 57:11 It had also been the site, which I can imagine 57:14 is where those agonized screams might be coming from. 57:17 It had also been the site 57:18 of an unusual amount of crime and violence, 57:22 including several murders in the execution 57:25 of a Confederate officer by a firing squad. 57:29 Are you kidding me? 57:31 Yeah. 57:31 I'm not. 57:33 Stephen shared his findings with Emmett and Linda, 57:36 which only confirmed that they needed to do something 57:38 before things got worse. 57:39 That night they had their local priest. 57:42 It's about time. 57:43 Come out to the house to perform a blessing. 57:45 I think I feel like it's past that to be quite honest. 57:47 I don't think a priest is taking care of this. 57:50 But from the moment he arrived, 57:51 Linda could tell the man sense something was wrong in the house. 57:54 He said, I don't have enough holy water for this. 57:56 Linda said he seemed like he was very uneasy the whole time he was in the house. 58:00 He just seemed like all he wanted was to get out. 58:02 Yeah. 58:03 The priest blessed the rooms on the first floor, 58:05 but when it came time to go upstairs, 58:06 he started packing his things and told them 58:09 it wasn't necessary to bless every room. 58:11 It is though, baby. 58:13 So he literally said, fuck that. 58:14 A man of God. 58:16 A man of God. 58:16 He said, fuck that. 58:17 A man of God. 58:18 A man of God. 58:18 Of the cloth. 58:19 Said, I'm not going up. 58:21 there. So I think I did a good enough job down here. He just like tossed him up the 58:27 hallway, like up the stairs, spray bottle, and he's like, I think it reached. I think 58:32 we're okay. It actually kind of spreads. Like it's cool. That night, Linda went to bed 58:38 hopeful that the priest's blessing was enough to bring an end to their nightmare. 58:41 How does Eddie would go to bed in this whole quarter blessing, I guess. Yeah. 58:45 But a few hours later, shockingly, she was awoken by the feeling of something heavy 58:49 on her chest, and a pair of unseen hands wrapped around her throat, cutting off her air. 58:53 Awesome. 58:54 After a few seconds, she was able to wake her husband, and the attack came to an abrupt 58:58 end. 58:59 But there was no longer any doubt as to whether this house was dangerous now. 59:03 Now, the next morning, Linda was still deeply unsettled by this attack in the night, 59:08 and called Stephen to tell him what happened.
