After more than 30 years as an artist—making my work, selling it, and building a business around it—there’s one thing I wish I had understood at the very beginning.

And it’s not about pricing, social media, shows, collectors, or even how to sell more art.

Those things matter. But there’s something deeper that can shape everything else:

Being an artist was God’s idea before it was ever yours.

When that truth finally got down into my spirit, it changed the way I created, the way I sold my work, the way I handled disappointment, and the way I trusted God for provision and open doors.

In this video, I share what I wish I had understood years earlier about creative calling, identity in Christ, stewardship, and learning to build your creative life with God instead of carrying the pressure to make everything happen on your own.

You still need to learn the practical things—develop your creative voice, build relationships, improve your craft, understand your market, and steward your opportunities well.

But you don’t do those things to prove you’re called.

You do them because you already know who you are.
