Weekly Roundup: Nike Falls, Boeing Gains, Carnival Gained
Today's biggest winners and losers in the stock market.
On this episode of Stock Movers, we take a look at some of the week's biggest gainers and decliners:
- Nike (NKE) is cutting jobs and overhauling the business as results deteriorate, with a restructuring plan expected to save $2.5 billion over the next five years. The company announced weaker-than-expected sales for the latest quarter and a disappointing outlook for this fiscal year, with a high-single-digit revenue decline expected. Nike shares fell as much as 8.9% after the announcement.
- A software glitch affecting Boeing (BA) 737 Max aircraft was determined not to pose a safety risk by a Federal Aviation Administration panel, a positive outcome for the US plane maker seeking regulatory approval for the largest variant of the popular narrowbody family.
- Carnival (CCL) raised its full-year outlook as demand for future sailings hits the highest-level ever during the quarter. The company attributed its improved outlook to a third-quarter record $7.6 billion in booking deposits, which beat a prior-year record by $500 million. Carnival raised its full-year expectations for net yields to 2.3%, an increase of 55 basis points from guidance issued last quarter.
