The War in Heaven

If Lucifer fell before Genesis -- if he was expelled from heaven -- why is he in the divine council in Job 1, presenting himself before God and accusing Job to his face? Why does Jesus say he saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven in Luke 10:18, apparently speaking of a present or future event? Why does Revelation 12 describe a war in heaven that looks like it has not happened yet? The timeline of the war in heaven is not as settled as most Christians assume. This episode works through each major passage -- Job 1, Zechariah 3, Luke 10:18, Revelation 12 -- and builds the framework that makes all of them cohere. The fall is two-stage. The accusation function explains why the adversary retains divine court access after the initial expulsion. And the cross is the specific event that removes the legal ground for the accusation and triggers the final expulsion described in Revelation 12. The roaring lion of 1 Peter 5:8 is not a lion that thinks it can win. It is a lion that knows exactly how much time it has left.
