Hospital home visits, AIMA task force (cont/d), TVDE protests & new language learning support

On Monday, July 20, 2026, Carl Munson for Good Morning Portugal reports that the Cascais Hospital home hospitalization unit has achieved a major milestone, preventing nearly 4,000 days of traditional inpatient care this year by treating patients at home. This has freed up beds for acute cases and is viewed as a cost-effective solution.

Other headlines include the government forming a task force to tackle a longstanding backlog, a new community-led SWAT language program designed to help expats master Portuguese through accountability, weekly goals, and real-world practice (instead of apps); eased water restrictions in the Algarve after recent rain, taxi protests against new TVDE regulations, Angolan investment in Portugal doubling to historic levels, and minor injuries following a fire at Lisbon’s CUF hospitals.
