Portugal win well without CR7, strikes kick in & join our new expat book club!

On Friday 2nd October 2026, Carl Munson’s Good Morning Portugal! news reports that Portugal beat Denmark 4-2 in the Nations League without Cristiano Ronaldo, securing a third consecutive win as manager José Jesus praised squad unity and José Mourinho dismissed rumours of involvement in the saga. The other lead is widespread labour disruption: public-administration staff, EasyJet cabin crew and transport workers are striking together, with 350,000 civil servants protesting pay stagnant since 2008 ahead of the 9th October state-budget deadline.
Other headlines include a new Algarve Care Services community initiative, the ongoing Volta plastic-recycling debate, Portugal hosting a NATO robotics exercise, a request to investigate a flydubai incident, carbon-import costs hitting business, and a flood-prevention plan for Albufeira.
Weekend weather turns warmer inland, with Coimbra at 29°C and Évora 30°C.
