The Tragic Haunting of Rhoda Derry: A Soul That Couldn’t Rest, Part One | Grave Talks CLASSIC

This is a Grave Talks CLASSIC EPISODE!

Rhoda Derry’s story is one of the most haunting and heartbreaking in the history of American asylums. Once a vibrant young woman, her life descended into unimaginable torment after being committed to a mental institution in the 1800s. Subjected to years of cruelty, neglect, and isolation, Rhoda became a symbol of the horrors inflicted upon those society chose to forget.

But death wasn’t the end of Rhoda’s story. To this day, visitors to the Peoria State Hospital — where she spent her final years — report strange noises, shadowy figures, and an overwhelming sadness that seems to emanate from the very walls. Many believe Rhoda’s spirit still roams the grounds, searching for the peace she was denied in life.

In this chilling episode of The Grave Talks, we speak with author and paranormal researcher Sylvia Shults about the enduring legend of Rhoda Derry — a woman whose suffering echoes through time, and whose ghostly presence continues to remind us of humanity’s darkest mistakes.
