Clive Davis: The Dark Side of the Man With the Golden Ear

Clive Davis helped build careers, create superstars, launch record labels, and shape the sound of American music for more than half a century. But when one man accumulates that much power, influence, money, and access, there are inevitably questions about what was happening behind the scenes.
In this episode, we follow Clive Davis from his unlikely beginnings as a Harvard-trained lawyer to the top of Columbia Records, through his controversial firing, the creation of Arista Records, his relationships with Whitney Houston and Diddy, and eventually his position inside Sony.
Then we go deeper.
We examine allegations surrounding his departure from Columbia, the infamous conspiracy theory about a 1995 meeting between music executives and the private-prison industry, TLC's battle with Arista, his connections to Diddy, Michael Jackson's fight with Sony and the enormous value of his music catalog, the circumstances surrounding Whitney Houston's death at the Beverly Hilton before Davis's annual Pre-Grammy Gala, and Davis's connections to powerful elite circles.
Some connections are documented. Some are allegations. And some take us firmly into conspiracy territory.
Was Clive Davis simply one of the most brilliant music executives who ever lived—or does the story of the “man with the golden ear” have a much darker side?
