Kanakuk Kamps: A History They Don’t Advertise

Summer camp is one of America’s most trusted traditions—but behind the promise of faith, character, and safety lies a much darker history. In this episode, we investigate Kanakuk Kamps, tracing its roots from the early militarized youth camp movement to OSS training philosophies, ideological conditioning, and the rise of a powerful parachurch empire. We examine decades of abuse allegations, internal handling of misconduct, the use of NDAs, and how unchecked authority allowed predators to remain in positions of trust. This episode explores historical parallels, survivor accounts, court records, and investigative reporting to ask one central question: How did this keep happening for so long?️ Content Warning: This episode discusses child sexual abuse, institutional cover-ups, and suicide.
