The 241 Plot: The Alaska Militia Conspiracy

In this episode of Conspiracy Theories, Cults, & Crimes, Vanessa Richardson examines the so called 241 Plot and the rise of Alaska militia leader Schaeffer Cox, whose anti government ideology and armed network drew national attention in 2011. Cox, a self described constitutionalist, built a following rooted in sovereign citizen beliefs, apocalyptic rhetoric, and deep distrust of federal authority. Prosecutors alleged that he and his associates plotted violent retaliation against law enforcement officers and federal officials, referring to their plan as “241” in online communications. As undercover informants infiltrated the group, recordings captured discussions of weapons, ambush tactics, and revolutionary fantasies. This episode traces Cox’s ascent within the militia movement, the cult like dynamics that formed around his leadership, the federal investigation that dismantled the group, and the broader implications of extremist ideology in modern America.
