Birchmore's Autopsy Doctor Never Saw the Room. She Got This.
Twenty-one days passed between Sandra Birchmore's autopsy and the request for her biological evidence kit, medical examiner Dr. María del Mar Capó-Martínez told jurors in the Farwell trial. Evidence gathered that late can be contaminated, she testified. Earlier in the trial, a state crime lab analyst testified those swabs should be taken within five days. Prosecutors allege Matthew Farwell, a one-time Stoughton detective, killed Sandra and the child she was expecting. He has pleaded not guilty. The medical examiner's office was never summoned to the apartment, she testified. Instead she got police paperwork that already had Sandra's death down as a suicide and noted no foul play. Her ruling was suicide until April 2026, when she amended it to undetermined. Prosecutors argue she ruled prematurely, based on misinformation, while Farwell's team says federal prosecutors pushed her to change it. Ex-FBI agent Robin Dreeke and trial attorney Bob Motta join me on what a three-week gap does to evidence a jury is asked to trust.
