Show full transcript 1:26 The dispatcher had been trying to calm Andy down and talk him through how to do CPR, 1:30 which he does in between crying and what sounds like throwing up. 1:35 But really, it must have been like dry heaves because responding deputies don't see vomit anywhere when they arrive. 1:40 But they do see steam coming from the bathroom where they find Andy on the floor holding his 35-year-old wife, Heather Turner. 1:48 She's face-up and completely naked except for some towels draped over her body, and it looks like her hair might be wet, 1:55 But it's hard to tell because of all the blood that is coming from a large wound beside her left ear and the blood isn't just on her 2:01 It's everywhere on the towels around here near the base of a closet door in the bathroom 2:07 And it's a little bit hard to like get your bearings 2:09 So our team actually put together a layout of this bathroom that we're including in our video 2:14 Now the first responders try to get Andy out of the room so that they can look at Heather 2:19 And by now the couple's eight-year-old daughter is at the deputies heels asking if her mommy is gonna be okay 2:25 Was she sleeping when they got there? No, she had woken up to a loud noise earlier presumably the gunshot 2:32 She just saw her mom's like legs in the bathroom like her on the bathroom floor before her dad got her to like get away 2:38 But she'd seen enough to be worried and the terrible answer was no her mom wasn't going to be okay 2:45 Heather was pronounced dead right there on the floor of the bathroom 2:49 In the reports from deputies, on the counter there was a notebook folded open to a page 2:54 with just five words written on it. 2:56 It says, I'm sorry, I love you. 3:00 Now there's a world where this story could have ended right here, because the decision 3:04 of what to do next fell to the coroner. 3:08 And she had two options. 3:09 Release Heather's body to the funeral home, basically saying this is a suicide no further 3:14 investigation needed, or she could proceed with an autopsy. And even though this corner was brand 3:21 new, only four months into the job, she says that she saw enough that made her know that the 3:26 right thing to do was to take a closer look at this, to be absolutely sure about what this is, 3:32 because there were a couple of little things that she saw when she got to the scene that 3:36 nagged at her. I mean, they might be easily explained away once they do the investigation, 3:41 but they have to do the investigation. 3:43 Right, we say that like all the time. 3:45 Exactly. 3:46 What were the things that she was kind of like, 3:48 that were flagging for her? 3:49 Well, for one, even though it looks like 3:51 most of the blood spatter is lower, 3:53 almost like Heather was crouched down 3:54 near the linen closet and toilet 3:56 when the trigger was pulled. 3:58 There is one area about midway up the wall 4:01 near the toilet that looks darker. 4:04 Like, maybe it had been cleaned up in some way. 4:06 She has no for sure, it just stands out to her. 4:09 and Heather's wounds also stand out. 4:12 Now, caveat, this coroner is not a medical doctor. 4:15 But by the way, she's also not like 4:17 an untrained Joe Schmo off the street. 4:19 Like, and you don't have to go through extensive schooling 4:21 to be a coroner. 4:22 We have talked about this before. 4:24 Yes. 4:24 But she did, and she has been brought to the scene 4:27 to take note of the state of the body 4:29 to investigate the death. 4:32 So she saw the same thing that responding deputies did, 4:35 which was a hole on the left side of Heather's head. 4:39 And I had our team make a diagram of this as well. 4:42 But she also makes note of a smaller wound 4:45 on the right side, like higher up. 4:48 She doesn't know what it is, 4:49 but it's something to be looked at in the autopsy. 4:52 I mean, could it be an exit wound? 4:53 She doesn't know, but she also reports 4:56 that she doesn't see a bullet or any sign 4:58 of a bullet in the room or the surrounding area. 5:01 So you see why she's like, hey, you know what? 5:03 like, let's get that autopsy. 5:06 Yeah, was the gun still in the bathroom when they found Heather? 5:08 It was. 5:08 The revolver, which was Heather's gun, was kind of like sticking out under a bloody 5:12 towel beside the toilet, which was near where her head was positioned. 5:17 But I think it's kind of hard to say much more about the position of anything 5:20 because Andy later tells deputies that at some point he realized 5:24 that he was sitting on the gun. 5:26 So he moved it over to the side. 5:28 So as they prep to remove Heather's body, the coroner talks 5:32 with Andy about the hours leading up to Heather's death. Now Andy says that last night the family 5:38 had dinner together and after he and Heather had husband and wife time all night long. 5:44 I'm kind of scared to ask but what's husband and wife time? 5:48 This is not me. Well husband and wife time is sex and he calls it husband and wife time. 5:53 And he's at all night. 5:55 From after dinner till like four or five o'clock in the morning. 6:00 thing. Where is their daughter? Because she's like eight. That's eight of my daughter. 6:05 I don't know what time they had dinner. She must have gone to bed shortly after dinner. 6:08 She slept on the couch that night. I don't know. Either way, eventually after Marathon 6:15 husband and wife night, Andy fell asleep in the wee hours of the morning. Now he wrote 6:21 a book that we read for this case about his experience. And in it, he specifically said 6:26 he fell asleep with his head laying on Heather's back. He says that he was lying in bed when 6:31 Heather got up to get ready for work, and then he heard this loud pop. He jumps up, 6:37 runs to the bathroom. This is the same time that his daughter did, and that's when he found Heather 6:41 on the ground and told her daughter to get out so she wouldn't see anything. 6:45 Now, Andy tells the coroner and the deputies that there were no warning signs. I mean, 6:50 in his book, he says that they never even fought. In all their time together, Andy 6:55 claims they maybe had like two disagreements. And in the ring light of social media posts, 7:01 their relationship did look picture perfect. They had these, what they called coffee time chats 7:06 that they would post on Facebook to talk about their relationship. And of course, 7:10 God, because why do I feel like these couple to camera videos are always talking about 7:13 God and perfect relationships yet somehow they're also always ending up on our show. 7:19 There is a theme here. And I always say the more you have to like project this 7:23 image of a perfect marriage or a life the less I believe it. 7:26 And they were projecting, and all the photos that Andy posted online were of red bottom 7:31 shoes that he bought Heather, the vacations that they were taking. 7:34 It looked like they were living a life of luxury. 7:37 But the relationship had bumps from the very beginning. 7:42 They each were married with kids before they met one another. 7:45 In Andy's book, he says that he didn't meet Heather until they were both already 7:49 going through their respective divorces. 7:51 But, our reporters talked to multiple people with ties to the couple who dispute that. 7:58 The story around town was that Heather and Andy met at church when she was still with 8:03 her first husband. 8:04 Andy was an associate pastor and Heather and her husband were actually getting marriage 8:09 counseling from Andy when the affair allegedly started in 2008. 8:14 Okay, why am I getting Micah and JP Miller vibes here? 8:17 So we were reporting on this story the same time that the Doc on Netflix came out about 8:22 Micah Miller and there were like some weird deja vu moments for me. 8:27 So like just wait. 8:29 So eventually when their divorces were finalized, Heather and Andy moved in together and after 8:34 Heather got pregnant with their daughter, their only child together and then they got 8:39 married in 2010. 8:40 Now while he's saying that there were no warning signs that she was going to 8:43 her own life. Andy is up front with investigators at the scene that Heather had been going through 8:49 a lot recently. She was going through a custody battle with her ex-husband. She had lost her 8:53 grandfather, who she was super close with. And the real thing that sticks out like a sore thumb 8:59 is he says that Heather was supposed to resign or be fired from her job literally that day. 9:06 For what? Oh, I have the police files. And in it, he tells investigators at the scene, 9:11 she quote was going to get fired for having an affair with a co-worker and was going to be fired when she went to work that 9:19 morning, which 9:21 clearly he had known about because he's telling them about this 9:25 But by the time Andy writes his book, he's claiming he had no idea 9:30 He just writes that he knew there was a guy that had been harassing her at work 9:35 And she was actually getting in trouble for personal emails. She was writing to Andy 9:40 But what he wrote in the book is not accurate because I'm looking at the files. 9:45 And investigators spoke with Heather's boss and co-workers. 9:49 And their story about what led up to this is clear and consistent from person to person. 9:55 Heather worked as a clerk at the Paulding County Courthouse. 10:00 And her co-workers there confirmed that there was, in fact, an affair happening 10:04 between Heather and another clerk there, one that she worked with. 10:08 And it might have just been emotional, maybe more, but they had gotten pulled into the 10:12 judge's office the day before, and they were basically told like, listen, you need to resign 10:16 or you'll be fired. 10:17 Choice was theirs to make the next day. 10:20 Which is the day that she died. 10:21 Yes. 10:22 But this is just the tip of the iceberg, because what Andy left out of his story 10:27 to deputies was everything that led up to this affair. 10:32 And that's something Heather's co-workers lay out in horrible detail. 10:37 One deputy clerk who worked with Heather said that they used to be close and Heather would confide in 10:42 her about the way that Andy was with her behind closed doors. Heather allegedly said that he'd 10:47 cheated on her before and had been physically violent. She told this coworker that a few years 10:53 ago Andy had even broken her ribs. Now more recently, Heather told her that she stopped 10:58 sleeping in the bed with Andy and she was sleeping in one of their other bedrooms in 11:02 house. A different deputy clerk tells detectives about three weeks ago Andy 11:07 brought his and Heather's daughter to the office so that they could all have 11:10 lunch together. Now according to this clerk when she tried going into the 11:13 break room the door was locked which was weird to her so the clerk unlocked it 11:17 and found Heather pressed against the wall and Andy right in her face. Now 11:22 Andy didn't write about anything like this incident in his book so I can't 11:26 tell you what his side of things are. I thought for a second that he was 11:29 to talk to us for this episode because our reporter got a text back from him on Monday, 11:33 September 14. He said that he was traveling, said, you know, send your questions by email. 11:38 I'll get back to you on Wednesday. We email them over next day. Crickets. She even checked back 11:43 in two weeks later just to like make sure he got the email, texted him on the same number that 11:48 they were communicating with and he didn't respond for a while. So I thought Andy was going to 11:52 ghost us. But at the 11th hour, he came back to us and said that he did not want to 11:58 participate in our coverage and that the sheriff's office has all of the facts, but his side of the story is in his book 12:05 So we're gonna rely on that and the only real work incident that he talks about in this leading up to Heather's death is 12:12 One time where he says he made a call to the co-worker that Heather was having an affair with and he says that got 12:17 blown out of proportion and is at the center of what he says people online are calling cover-up conspiracies 12:24 What do you mean? 12:26 I'm not sure exactly. 12:27 I mean, add it to the list of questions that I wanted to ask him. 12:30 But like, a call and showing up are two very different incidents if both happened. 12:35 Yeah. 12:36 Now, there are no known reports regarding that break room incident. 12:40 But people at the office were concerned. 12:43 Especially the judge. 12:45 Apparently, most of the office knew what the fight was about. 12:49 Heather's affair with her co-worker. 12:51 The judge tells detectives that she recently found out about the affair and basically told 12:56 them like this is a major HR issue. 12:58 They had this whole talk, right, the day before Heather died, but the judge also said that 13:03 she had conversations with Heather just about Andy because Heather did confide in 13:08 her as well about some of the stuff that was allegedly going on at home. 13:12 The judge even recommended to Heather that she get a temporary protective order against 13:17 Andy. 13:18 But Heather just said that she planned on leaving Andy soon. 13:22 She said the same thing to that first clerk that I mentioned. 13:26 Two days before she died, she had said that she was going to leave Andy that very weekend. 13:33 And I assume they talked to, like, the co-worker too. 13:35 Like, I know they talked to the judge and these two clerks, 13:37 but, like, the co-worker she was having an affair with? 13:39 Yeah, so his name is Joel Heybear. 13:41 He goes by Rob. 13:42 And Heather had worked with him at the probate court 13:45 since she started less than a year ago. 13:48 Now, according to Rob, they became fast friends 13:50 and pretty quickly Heather was telling him 13:52 even more than the other clerks 13:54 about the alleged abuse that she was experiencing at home. 13:57 Our reporter, Taylor Day, spoke to Rob and he said, 14:00 it's not like she just like came up to him and dumped. 14:02 He had to really press her for that information 14:05 asking if Andy hit her or forced himself on her. 14:09 And according to Rob, she told him yes 14:11 to all of those things. 14:13 Rob says that they started getting more intimate about five months before all of this and a lot 14:19 of it was through emails. But somehow the judge found out about these emails, which is why she 14:26 called them in for that meeting. Now we got the emails and messages with all of the documents that 14:32 we foy it and some of the messages are flirty. But by April, things took a turn. Now this was 14:39 It was allegedly after Andy found out about her and Rob, 14:42 but before that courthouse break room incident, 14:46 and Heather writes to Rob and says this. 14:54 Let's face it, if student loans are slowing down 14:56 your financial goals, 14:58 it might be time for a smarter strategy. 15:00 That's where today's sponsor, SoFi comes in. 15:02 SoFi is helping you tackle student debt 15:04 by refinancing your loans 15:05 with flexible monthly payments that fit your budget. 15:08 We're talking about the potential 15:08 to lower your interest rate, 15:10 reduce your monthly payment, 15:11 or even pay off your loan sooner depending on the term you choose. 15:15 You can also consolidate your student loans into one simple monthly payment 15:18 so you could save more each month and work towards achieving your long-term financial ambitions. 15:23 SoFi offers competitive, fixed and variable rates and no origination fees, 15:27 prepayment fees, or late fees required. 15:30 It takes just two minutes to check your rate with SoFi, 15:32 and they have already helped over 500,000 members refinance 15:35 more than 50 billion in student loans. 15:38 visit sofi.com slash crime junkie to see how much you can save that's sofi.com 15:43 slash crime junkie and start making smarter money moves with sofi sofi 15:47 student loans are originated by sofi bank and a member FDIC additional terms 15:51 and conditions apply NMLS 696891 this email to Robb is dated April 5th so 16:04 like a month before she died and for I'm gonna have you read this he took 16:12 my keys, called me, told me he knew I was screwing an attorney, told redacted that I'm 16:19 ripping our family apart, said I don't love anyone but myself. He said no one else will 16:24 ever love me, that I will allow myself to be used because I have no self worth, and 16:29 no one will ever see anything other than an opportunity when they look at me. We fought 16:34 until 3am. I refused to go into the bedroom because he locked me in there yesterday 16:38 at lunch. I fell asleep sitting at the kitchen table and woke up at five to go to work. My 16:44 mother died 16 years ago today. This is a difficult day in general for me and now I still have 16:50 to deal with all of his craziness. He told me he would bury me before he signed divorce papers. 16:56 I think that was a threat but he said it was just an expression. 17:00 Is it? Then he just cries and cries and loves me so much. Then two minutes later 17:06 He hates me again. My brain is fried. I miss you so much. It hurts and now you're upset because of me 17:12 And I hate that. I mean the stuff she's describing in this email if true is like 17:17 Classic, I was gonna say like a textbook textbook the way he's talking about her trying to like 17:23 Chip away at herself confidence even the like keeping her up all night 17:26 She's gonna sleep deprivation of it like that's like very classic manipulation tactic 17:31 Now Rob also tells detectives that one time Heather came to him and mentioned finding a strange search on the computer 17:38 something about 17:39 Suicide and she said she asked Andy about it and he told her not to worry. I mean that's 17:46 Definitely something that you worry about 17:48 Yes, and I don't know this for sure 17:50 But I think it's possible that at the time when she saw this she might have been more concerned for Andy than herself 17:57 because another story that she allegedly told Rob was about a night when Andy 18:01 was drunk sitting on the couch with a gun talking about making her rich. I don't 18:07 really know what to make of it all but in the case files detectives do get a 18:11 search warrant for Andy's phone and they find an internet search dated April 18:15 23rd so this is like a week and a half before Heather died and it was for 18:19 quote, does suicide void life insurance in the USA? 18:24 Now, Rob said he knew how dangerous Heather's situation 18:29 was. He said the day that they got called into the judge's 18:32 chamber, he was telling her to leave to go stay with her 18:36 father, Billy, somewhere with somebody around so she would 18:40 be safe. He said they both knew that they couldn't 18:42 stay at that job anyways. And his plan was that they 18:45 were going to resign so that they could be together. 18:48 So on their way out that day, Heather handed him a letter that she had written in response 18:53 to one that he'd given her, and he shared a copy of this letter with us. 18:57 It's mostly just about like her feelings for him. 18:59 But importantly, at the end she writes, I love you and I would love to see you over 19:04 the weekend. 19:06 So she wants to see him that weekend. 19:08 I mean, she's telling co-workers that she's leaving her husband that weekend. 19:11 and gotta get a divorce. 19:13 And before that weekend, she dies. 19:16 Yes. 19:17 Except the divorce part seems a little bit up in the air 19:21 because turns out technically, 19:23 she might not have needed a divorce. 19:26 Robb says that Heather and Andy's marriage 19:28 wasn't even real. 19:30 Heather told him that Andy forged the pastor's signature 19:33 on the certificate and she turned it 19:36 into the probate court. 19:38 Now Andy says in his book that they got married 19:40 in their living room. 19:41 got a friend to sign it later, and Heather was the one who was supposed to file the paperwork. 19:46 But regardless, Heather was telling people that the wedding was never officiated, and 19:50 apparently they never exchanged vows or had any kind of ceremony. 19:55 And both of those things, an officiant and a ceremony, are required to make marriages 19:59 legal in Georgia. 20:00 So they're not married under God or under the law? 20:04 I mean, I think the law saw them as married, but there might have been this forgery 20:09 thing in the mix. And Rob's not the only one that Heather told this to. She told the 20:14 judge the same thing that their marriage was fake. 20:18 But why? I mean, it seems like at one point, at least, she did want to be with him. 20:23 I have no idea what this is about or what role each of them played in this forgery. 20:29 I honestly, this is something I could spiral on. But everything I'm thinking or would 20:34 say is just baseless. So let's just keep rolling. Our crime junkies can write in 20:39 and tell us, like, what they think about this. 20:40 Yeah, I want to know, like, all the theories. 20:42 So as more and more of this information is coming in, 20:46 investigators are eager to get back in front of Andy, right? 20:49 Except they can't. 20:51 Every time they try to get him in for an interview, 20:53 he either refuses or defers to his lawyer 20:55 who declines for him. 20:58 And in his book, Andy claims that he wasn't going 21:01 to do a thing for the sheriff's office 21:02 because he already answered their questions 21:04 and they kept harassing him. 21:06 When did he answer their questions? 21:07 I think he's talking about like at the scene and he did talk to them there 21:12 But he didn't do any kind of like official sit-down interview in the weeks and months after right like after they found out about all the 21:19 Abuse allegations and stuff correct, which is probably why they kept asking for an interview 21:24 Yeah 21:25 Now one of the times I can see in the reports that Andy's attorney replies to a request to meet saying something like 21:31 Andy's not coming in for this interview because he like the lawyer 21:34 He is not going to quote 21:37 feed his client up to the police in a homicide investigation. 21:41 And the detectives are like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. 21:43 Who said homicide? 21:44 We thought this was a suicide. 21:45 And the attorney goes, like, oh, I must have misspoken. 21:48 And by the way, we reached out to him too for comment, 21:50 but he didn't get back to us either. 21:52 I mean, to be clear, is it technically anything yet 21:55 or just a death investigation? 21:57 Yes, yours, your spidey senses are correct 21:59 because they're still awaiting an autopsy result, 22:02 which we're about to just come in from the GBI, 22:05 by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. 22:07 In the autopsy report, the medical examiner says 22:10 that the bullet entered the left side of Heather's head 22:13 and that the bullet was found lodged in a bone 22:17 in her skull. 22:18 That's why they didn't find a bullet at the scene. 22:21 He said there were multiple skull fractures, 22:23 which is to be expected in case 22:24 involving a gunshot wound to the head, 22:26 but there wasn't any other trauma. 22:28 Another thing the Emmy doesn't note 22:30 is any sign of stippling or muzzle burns. 22:33 So in the end, the Emmy says that based on the trajectory of the bullet and there being 22:39 no other visible wounds, they determine that the wound was self-inflicted. 22:45 However, the GBI decides to rule Heather's death as undetermined since the sheriff's 22:50 office was still investigating. 22:53 And I can see from the investigative files that part of their investigation involved 22:58 speaking to Andy's first wife, Mindy. 23:00 Now, remember, Andy didn't want to talk to us, but he did include his feelings about 23:05 Mindy in his book, which is called Who Turned Up the Silence? 23:08 But Mindy has her own side of the story, and she didn't go on to write a book. 23:14 She collected a binder of documentation that she turned over to the sheriff's office, 23:19 and there is a copy of the binder's contents in the case files. 23:23 It's over a hundred pages. 23:26 She had been documenting everything from the abuse that she allegedly endured at the hands of Andy to the numerous affairs that he allegedly had while they were married. 23:37 I mean, she even included copies of handwritten letters that Heather wrote to Andy at the beginning of their relationship or their alleged affair in 2008. 23:45 And emails that Andy and Heather sent to each other are full of really awful things that they wished would happen to Mindy, including some pretty disturbing statements. 23:54 Like, Andy writing that he'd like to feed Mindy to alligators because she wanted, God 23:59 forbid, alimony and child support. 24:01 And Heather responded, do it, effort. 24:04 I personally like the alligators better. 24:08 Rob told our reporters that Heather told him Andy forged a lot of emails between them 24:14 and that she never said those things, but we don't have any proof of that. 24:19 And I'm not, like, excusing what was said at all, if Heather, like, actually said 24:23 But I always wonder in situations like this like what story like what version of the story the other woman gets right like 24:29 I'm sure like his version of events even his own perspective like it's even if felt if it felt true to him is gonna 24:36 Be very different and that's not a thing specific to this case or this divorce between him and Mindy, right? 24:43 I mean 24:43 I'm not trying to like keep bringing up the Micah Miller case 24:46 But we saw this with like all of JP Miller's exes whoever he got with right like a 24:52 different version a different story than like Micah's truth. Yeah, I mean his church right got a different story 25:00 Than Micah's truth. Yes, and while we're comparing cases 25:04 There's another element of this one that you can hold side-by-side to the Miller case 25:09 To me it seems like just like J.P. Miller had this pastor father who always took his son's side 25:16 so did Andy. Included in Mindy's binder is an account that she gives of when Andy 25:23 had allegedly put his hands on her and started strangling her. She was able to 25:28 get away and she called Andy's dad Curtis who was like this traveling 25:32 pastor at one point. She was calling him basically to try and diffuse the 25:36 situation but when he got there and she made a comment about calling the 25:41 sheriff's office Curtis allegedly told her that she shouldn't because quote 25:45 the ministry is bigger than your problems. 25:48 So, she shouldn't leave her abuser 25:50 because it would hurt the church. 25:52 Sound familiar? 25:54 And on another occasion, after Mindy and Andy separated 25:58 and they were going through a messy custody battle, 26:02 Curtis sent this handwritten letter 26:03 to the person who gives the judge 26:06 like their recommendation on the custody arrangement. 26:09 Oh, like a guardian-made item. 26:10 Right, so that letter, it was also in the binder. 26:13 And it is kind of hard to read, 26:14 But it's on letterhead from Pastor Dr. Curtis Turner. 26:18 And Brett, I'm going to have you read this highlighted part. 26:22 It's like the fourth paragraph. 26:24 Yeah, his handwriting is like really tiny. 26:27 It's hard to read, yeah. 26:29 I am by no means a perfect man. 26:31 But I and my family have had a good name in this county for many, many years. 26:36 We are here going nowhere, trying to live godly Christian lives before all. 26:41 So for God's sake and our namesake, someone help me understand why we can't work on, help, 26:48 support, and try to build a good and strong family. 26:52 Even the way he like worded it is interesting to me, like we are trying to live godly Christian 26:56 lives before all, like it's a show. 26:59 Well, and also like God's name, for like for God's sake and our namesake, like very... 27:04 It's about how like or what people, yeah, perceive them to be. 27:08 And listen, not for this case in particular, but I just need to say it because I'm so tired 27:13 of seeing this bull fly. 27:15 You're not living a godly Christian life if you are an abuser or an abling an abuser. 27:20 The end, full stop, no excuses, no head of the household nonsense that justifies emotional, 27:26 financial, psychological, or physical abuse. 27:29 I know our Lieutenant Governor here in Indiana is out there preaching that God 27:32 is a God of hate, but absolutely no. 27:36 I do not believe that. 27:37 We grew up in church like which like for everything that it was all the good bad and ugly 27:43 I was told like what I read in my Bible is that God is a God of love 27:46 We are supposed to show love to one another. We are supposed to show compassion 27:50 Now Andy does not address every allegation of abuse in his book 27:53 He just says that these claims of abuse were all made up by women who were against him and he 28:01 details an instance where he claims his first wife lied about Andy hurting her 28:06 and called the sheriff's office on him. And we reached out to Mindy for comment, 28:11 but we've not heard back as of this recording. However, when we reached out 28:16 to Pastor Dr. Curtis for comment, he sent our reporter this text message, 28:21 which I thought was interesting and I also obviously printed out because I 28:25 had to. He says, here it is, five exclamation points. She was not murdered, 28:32 exclamation point, the end exclamation point. That should end it. No more calls. Thank you. 28:39 Looking forward, Titus 214. Pray hand emojis. I don't know how read up you are on your Bible, 28:48 but I told you to bring a Bible. I was told me to bring a Bible today, so I assume I have to 28:52 look up Titus 214. Yep, you sure do. Okay, Titus 214 says, who gave it? It's like in the 29:01 middle of a sentence I feel like that's important who gave himself for us to 29:05 redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are 29:10 his very own eager to do what is good. I don't know if this is something he writes 29:15 at the end of every message and he just like it feels it in his heart. It's like 29:19 his verse or whatever. I found it a little strange that it was like a 29:23 message about forgiveness. There's I yeah you don't you don't even know 29:27 what's coming. So listen, let me say this. Maybe everything can be true at once. If Heather 29:35 did take her own life, what drove her to it then? Also, if anyone was asking for forgiveness 29:43 for anything like I was taught that God forgives, what you got to mean it and you got to change 29:51 change, Andy for sure did not change, at least not much, because while the investigation into 29:58 his wife's death was still ongoing, like before the GBI had even come back with an official 30:04 undetermined ruling, he had started up the same old cycle with a brand new woman. 30:12 I used to think cameras were enough, but they just record. 30:20 Simply safe is different. 30:21 They understand that break-ins aren't just about the house, it's about the people 30:25 you care about inside. Kristi told our reporter Taylor Day that she had just moved back to the 31:33 area from Hawaii with her two young boys, and this friend said that Andy could help her get 31:38 into acting because apparently he owns a film studio in Paulding County, question mark. 31:45 And he's an associate master? 31:47 He was. 31:49 Now he somehow supposedly is involved in the film industry, 31:52 which I know what you're thinking. 31:53 When I think film industry, 31:55 I think Paulding County, Georgia. 31:56 I mean, when I think podcasting, 31:57 it's Indianapolis, Indiana. 31:59 That is fair. 32:00 I just think it's, I think it's weird 32:01 because like I can't pin down 32:03 how Andy made money to afford to live 32:06 or like his lifestyle. 32:07 In the investigative records, 32:09 it's like nobody can actually say 32:11 what Andy does for work. 32:13 Now nobody seems to know. 32:14 Anyways, Christy says that when she and Andy finally meet up, he was honest with her and 32:19 told her that his wife passed away and that he needed a nanny to help with his kids, especially 32:23 on its upcoming cruise. 32:25 And this is the same thing that Andy does say in his book, by the way. 32:28 But Christy gave us a lot more detail on her perspective, which is interesting. 32:34 She says that the way Andy talked about his wife made her think that his wife had 32:39 passed away years ago, from like an illness or something. 32:42 To her, he didn't sound like the grieving husband that you would expect him to be if 32:48 he had lost his wife a little over a week ago at that point. 32:51 In like a pretty abrupt way with no warning signs. 32:54 Right. 32:55 And that is what he told deputies. 32:57 No warning signs. 32:58 Out of nowhere. 32:59 He and his wife were happy. 33:00 Then she takes her life. 33:02 Now Christie didn't find out for a while how or when Heather died. 33:06 So she took the job of nannying the kids and joined them on this cruise that happened 33:10 in July. 33:10 And the cruise, was this booked before or after Heather died? 33:14 It was booked before Kristi was actually taking Heather's place, and in more ways than one. 33:19 Because around the same time, she says that she got intimate with Andy. 33:24 And I'm not even going to get into it, but there is at least one other woman in this 33:28 window of time, like this matter of weeks since Heather died, who claims in official 33:32 records that she was also getting intimate with Andy. 33:35 But back to Kristi. 33:36 They start up a full-on relationship but pretty soon, she starts having issues with Andy. 33:42 She tells us that he was allegedly both mentally and physically abusive to her. 33:46 One of the worst nights, she recalls, is when she asked him about the age of one young 33:52 woman he was supposedly spending time with. 33:55 And Christie told our reporter, and it is documented in investigative records, that 33:59 Andy kept her up all night, abusing her sexually and assaulting her. 34:04 So, scared and desperate, she says she begged him to either let her go or kill her. 34:10 But he didn't either. 34:12 Christie says that when the sun came up the next morning, something changed and he finally 34:17 let her go and then just went on with life like normal. 34:21 I mean, it's interesting that Heather's last night, he admits to being like up all night 34:26 with her too. 34:27 Right. 34:27 Consentually, he says, which I will say the autopsy didn't find any physical evidence 34:32 of sexual assault but still Heather is telling people that they aren't even 34:37 sleeping in the same room at that point that she was about to leave him that 34:41 very weekend well and this is also like another Micah Miller parallel she told 34:46 people that JP would keep her up all night yeah it was not lost on me that 34:51 they're up all night like right into the morning hours when Heather was 34:54 supposed to get ready for work and like a big day a major day of work 34:59 Anyways, Chrissy told us that that night she had was a breaking point, and what prompted 35:03 her to press charges and file for a protection order against Andy in August of 2018. 35:09 The protection order is the first time any of these alleged incidents of abuse are documented 35:14 with officials. 35:15 But, Chrissy tells us, and this is in the reports, about a week before the court hearing, 35:22 she found out that she was pregnant with Andy's baby. 35:24 Right before the hearing she miscarried, but this totally messed with her and she said Andy had isolated her so much that he was the only person she felt like she could turn to for comfort. 35:34 That is not unusual, so she eventually went back to him. 35:40 The hearing for the restraining order is on September 5th and less than 10 days later she and Andy are engaged, which I know might sound unbelievable to somebody who hasn't lived through abuse. 35:53 But it it's the reality of it. Yeah, and I actually I want to dive more into this a little bit later 35:59 And I'm gonna have something important at the end of Heather's story because I think it's so important to understand 36:04 But I do want to get through Heather's story first 36:07 So Christy gets back with him, but surprise surprise things don't get better 36:13 Christy says that Andy even convinced her to go on the stand and say that the abuse like all the stuff 36:19 She put in that restraining order didn't happen 36:21 And when we asked Andy for comment, he said Christy is an admitted perjurer, implying that she's lying. 36:27 Christy says that their relationship is on and off until she was able to walk away for good in 2019. 36:33 In that same year, she spoke with detectives. 36:36 She said that Andy never really talked about Heather's death with her, so she didn't have any insight into what happened that night. 36:43 But she could speak to what kind of partner he was. 36:46 She told them about Andy's alleged fetish for sexual assault scenarios. 36:51 And she also says that one time while they were having sex, he asks Christie to hold 36:57 Heather's ashes so that he could be having sex with both of them. 37:03 Now she refused and he's like, oh, don't ever repeat that. 37:08 I was just kidding. 37:09 Now it took until November of 2019 for Christie to finally be done with Andy. 37:15 And he had moved on by then too, and was dating the woman who is now his current wife, Kelly. 37:21 But Andy didn't seem to be totally done with trying to wreak havoc on Christy's life. 37:27 Because Christy told us that out of the blue, she got a message from somebody saying, basically, 37:33 you're awful for what you did to Andy and his family, and that she is the one that 37:38 should be dead and not Heather. 37:40 And Christy is like, hold up, like, what are you talking about? 37:44 out. 37:44 Well, turns out, Andy allegedly had been telling at least one person that Christie was his and 37:52 Heather's nanny and that they planned this whole thing where Andy contacted Christie through 37:57 an app and told her where Heather's gun was in the car and then she supposedly climbed 38:03 through a window in the bathroom and shot Heather. 38:06 Andy allegedly told this person that when he heard the noise, he assumed it was done 38:11 So he walked into the bathroom and saw Christy crawling out the window 38:16 Notice the bullet was laying on the floor and like hands it to her through the window. I'm sorry. Wait 38:22 Who's he saying this to because it like he's not just saying that she was killed. He's admitting to being 38:27 Involved and this is not like ever part of any story 38:31 I don't know what to make of this because like okay take Andy out of the story like or being part of it like 38:38 Andy has never said anything to your point publicly 38:40 about Heather's case other than it was a suicide. 38:44 Like there's never even been so much 38:46 as another theory floated by him. 38:48 I mean, is this person making it up? 38:50 Well, Christie says she fully believes 38:52 that he told this woman that story. 38:55 But she is clear with us. 38:56 She's like, I was not involved in this anyway. 39:00 And she has never been considered a suspect by investigators. 39:04 And this is something that maybe 39:06 I wouldn't have even mentioned 39:07 if it were just the Facebook message that she got, except there it was, like the same 39:13 account in Investigative Records. Not from Christie, but it's from an informant who says 39:19 that Andy was drinking a lot and intoxicated when he told her pretty much the exact same thing. 39:25 I mean, and was Christie the informant? No, somebody who said that they heard it directly 39:30 from Andy. And the informant also tells detectives that Andy said a neighbor gave 39:35 statement saying they saw someone running from the back of the house into a vehicle to like speed off. 39:41 Made a statement. Is it in the records? 39:44 No. So like this is what I'm saying. I don't know what this is and it doesn't really go anywhere. 39:49 Like we know there wasn't even a bullet to pass off, right? Like that was in Heather's head. 39:55 Maybe they meant shell casing but revolvers don't eject those and there was an empty one 39:59 in Heather's gun so almost any way you slice it that part of the story can't even be true or right 40:07 but there is this one little piece of the story that nags at me so according to the informant 40:14 Andy told her that when he was on the phone with 911 when he opened the window back up to pass her 40:21 the bullet or the shell casing or whatever it could have been when he does this a little alarm 40:27 went off. That's such a specific detail. It is. And the weird part is, I do hear an alarm 40:35 in the background of the 911 call, like a minute and a half in. Here, I want you to listen to it. 40:42 Okay, Andy, listen to me. What is an intersecting road to Buck Trail? 40:50 So what was that alarm? I don't know. It is driving me absolutely 40:55 wild I don't see any records from the alarm company in the case file so I 41:00 don't know if they ever pulled those or got to the bottom of why the alarm went 41:04 off was it set all night like I mean now I have a million questions about the 41:07 alarm yeah I don't know I don't think this story is true I definitely don't 41:12 think Christie was involved in anything I just don't know why someone 41:17 Andy or otherwise would make up that story I mean did they test the gun 41:23 for DNA just to be sure. 41:25 They did. 41:26 And the only DNA profile that came back was on the trigger and it belonged to Heather, 41:32 which is one of the pieces of evidence that supports the theory of suicide. 41:37 Gunshot residue testing, by the way, also were positive on Heather's hands. 41:41 I mean, did they even check Andy's? 41:43 Well, they did. 41:44 They swabbed him on the scene the day that they responded. 41:47 And the results ended up being negative, but, and big but here, they ask Andy if he has washed his hands recently. 41:57 And the investigative records say that he first says no, then he says EMTs did wash his hands for him though. 42:06 I'm sorry, what? 42:07 I don't know how that happened, like it's nuts to me. 42:11 Investigative records also show that Andy changed out of his bloody shirt and they 42:16 didn't even collect it. So even though detectives are gathering a ton of 42:22 evidence to suggest that Heather was trying to escape an abusive situation, 42:26 that she was just about to leave and was even going to be with someone new, they 42:32 can't ignore some of this physical evidence. That they do collect. Yeah, 42:40 So instead of closing the case, they just let it stay open. 42:46 But without anyone really doing anything with it. 42:49 Which doesn't sit right with a lot of people who loved Heather. 42:52 I mean, she actually didn't have a lot of family. 42:54 Her mom died when she was 19 and she had a rocky relationship with her dad that she 42:58 was working to mend. 43:00 But she did have an aunt that she was close with and some really good friends who just 43:05 could not look the other way when this case stalled out. 43:07 I mean, they felt in their bones that Heather would never have left her daughter like that. 43:13 I mean, I've seen so many pictures of Heather and her daughter together. 43:17 I mean, there's this one in particular that I can like feel like it is so clear that she 43:23 loved her and I'm sure she loved her other kids too. 43:25 And listen, people can love their kids and struggle. 43:28 People can love their kids and even take their own life. 43:31 But there were too many elements of this case that bothered her family. 43:36 And it's more than just Heather's circumstances with Andy. 43:41 They were hearing things. 43:43 They were seeing things that just weren't adding up. 43:48 So they started a Justice for Heather Turner Facebook page that got some local traction. 43:54 And with that came the public scrutiny of Andy. 43:58 In the aftermath of Heather's death, Andy writes in his book that he and his family 44:02 were constantly dealing with harassment, 44:04 both online and in person. 44:06 They had to move schools, neighborhoods, 44:08 uproot their life. 44:10 But ever the optimist, he says that life turned around 44:13 when he met his current wife, Kelly, 44:15 who he had actually met in a grief counseling class. 44:18 Does he meet all of his wives in counseling? 44:21 I don't think he was at least like the counselor this time. 44:23 I'm assuming that he was there to get counseling 44:25 as he dealt with Heather's death. 44:27 So was she his counselor? 44:30 So no, according to his book, Kelly's husband had died. 44:36 I know I've said the name a million times. 44:38 This is exactly like the Micah Miller story. 44:40 Like, didn't JP's new wife also have a husband who died? 44:43 Either way, he seems happier, 44:45 but I don't know if things ever really let up for Andy. 44:48 If anything, they might get worse 44:52 when Heather's case gets featured on a TV show 44:55 and goes from local to national in 2022.
