Sandra Birchmore’s Defense Said WHAT About Her Final Days?!

Sandra Birchmore’s final days have become the focus of sharply opposed accounts in Matthew Farwell’s federal trial. His lawyer says Sandra acted in despair after a difficult period. Prosecutors say Farwell’s DNA on evidence collected at her apartment supports their allegation that he killed her and staged the scene.

Defense attorney Kimberly Stevens highlighted medication from childhood, a prior attempt to end her life, and the pressure of unpaid debts. She told jurors Sandra’s bank balance had fallen to $2.90 in late January 2021. The defense points out that testing did not match Farwell beneath her fingernails and contests the government’s interpretation of the original medical examiner’s finding.

Prosecutors have put a different story before the jury. They allege Farwell began pursuing Sandra when she was a young participant in the Stoughton Police Explorers program and remained involved with her for years. Their evidence includes DNA they say connects him to the strap and clothing, as well as records concerning his visit to her building on the night she died. He has pleaded not guilty.
