Sandra Birchmore’s Investigator Skipped WHAT After Her Death?!

Trooper Matthew Dunne testified that he did not attend Sandra Birchmore's autopsy. He also said he initially saw no reason to treat her death as suspicious. Federal prosecutors have been asking him why a case involving a pregnant woman and a married police detective was handled with so few recorded interviews and so little follow-up.

Dunne and his supervisor interviewed Matthew Farwell at an elementary school parking lot. Dunne said neither took notes or recorded the exchange because they hoped a less formal setting would keep Farwell from refusing to speak. He later acknowledged that Farwell's account of when the relationship began and how often the pair met was false. Prosecutors also elicited testimony that investigators did not speak to Birchmore's neighbors or go back to interview Farwell's Stoughton Police colleagues.

The defense argues that Birchmore died by suicide and relies in part on the absence of visible signs of struggle. Prosecutors allege Farwell staged her death. Video evidence placed him at her apartment building in a mask shortly before he left. His wife gave birth hours later. Those facts have become part of the government's timeline, but they do not by themselves establish what happened inside the apartment.
