"Story Time With Kane Williamson"

On this special episode of The BYC Podcast, ACC Head G Lane & Dylan Cleaver are joined by the Great Man himself, Kane Williamson aka Steady The Ship, for a wide-ranging yarn about walking away from international cricket, a timely phone call with Virat Kohli, life after the game, and why the side he’s left behind might be frighteningly good.

For a man who spent a career looking utterly unbothered by the fastest bowlers on earth, knowing when to stop was the hard part. Williamson reveals the decision had been circling for “18 months, two years”, from a thought that landed mid-tour in Sri Lanka (“what am I doing here?”) to the moment on the Lord’s balcony when it finally felt right. The day before he announced it, he spoke to Virat Kohli. He calls it “like looking in the mirror.”

But this is the ACC, so it doesn’t stay sensible for long: the new golf obsession, the admission that his favourite shadow-batting shot was actually a leave, and a genuinely extensive discussion about cricket boxes, including Mitch Marsh celebrating getting struck flush while wearing Williamson’s Cover protection.

And the big one for Black Caps fans... “This is the most talented New Zealand cricket team I’ve ever been a part of.” He explains why it’s now on the next generation to own it, and why the bowling depth should scare people.
