Ducks Match the MASSIVE Leo Carlsson Offer Sheet ft. David Pagnotta, Hart Levine, Kevin Kurz, and Steve Werier

On today’s episode of The Sheet, Jeff Marek is joined by David Pagnotta from The Fourth Period and Daily Faceoff to open the show and break down the biggest story in the NHL: the Anaheim Ducks accepting Leo Carlsson’s five-year, $90 million offer sheet ($18M AAV). They discuss Anaheim’s decision, the fallout around the league, what it means for the Ducks moving forward, how the Philadelphia Flyers and Danny Brière approached the situation, and what trades, signings, and storylines could be coming next across the NHL.

Then, Hart Levine from PuckPedia joins Jeff to dive deeper into the financial side of the NHL offseason, including the massive increase in free agency spending, the rising salary cap, new contract structures, and how teams are adapting to the league’s changing economic landscape. Kevin Kurz then joins to break down the Flyers’ side of the Carlsson offer sheet, how the move was received in Philadelphia, how Carlsson would have fit into the organization, and what the Flyers’ next targets could be. To close the show, former Florida Panthers Assistant General Manager Steve Werier joins Jeff to examine both sides of the Ducks and Flyers situation, the strategy behind offer sheets, and which players and teams could be involved in the next wave of NHL offer sheet drama.
